6th possibility: The government shut down the prosecution for diplomatic reasons, but can't admit that that's what it did because that would defeat the purpose?

Nobel Laureates on innovation being crucial for competitiveness.

Dealing back on competition policies, it’s an important part of our work when updating our merger guidelines to better take into account innovation and the appearance of new innovative firms.

Yes! Forget discussions about Northern Ireland or UK-EU relations. It's simply an unqualified good to have some human rights norms that restrain the otherwise untrammelled lawmaking power of the UK parliament!

“Over the last 70 years, the #ECHR has repeatedly stepped in when domestic courts were unable to provide the protection we now take for granted and cherish,” says the UK’s outgoing judge at the European Court of Human Rights👇

Always wonderful to read a ruling in a very modern case like Lovdahl Gormsen v. Meta and to see the court quote cases that talk about borrowing another person's horse. (It turns out my personal data and my horse are, legally, very similar.)

True, but think of how much fun you could have with a general SPAD training school!

@gilesyb.bsky.social “SPAD training school” feels like a service you could sell to this government…

Echt interessant. podcasts.apple.com/nl/podcast/n...

The current political balance in the Netherlands is so weird that they just held a TV debate between the leaders of the top 4 non-populist parties and it’s not unlikely that all 4 of them will have to go into coalition with each other to get to a majority.

Yes. But that’s rather shows that the 5th Republic has an answer for what to do if the Assembly is controlled by a different party than the President’s, but it doesn’t have an answer for what to do when no one controls the Assembly.

It’s a very flawed constitution.

My friend Sascha is a professional musician and he's lost a viola bow on the way to Heathrow. Please signal boost to help him get it back.
Lost viola bow on the way from Honor Oak Station to Heathrow Terminal 2. The bow slid from its bow case somewhere along the way, possibly on the train. TFL contacted already.
It weighs 68.2 grams and has got a stamped DODD next to the frog. If any info on this, please pm me.

Given that they keep asking why Macron called an election last year:

Not everything is about holding on to power as long as possible. If the government parties just got killed in a European (or nationwide local) election, dissolving parliament is the right thing to do on principle.

Is it "hands up, times up, got to go" for Macron now that another Prime Minister has resigned?

Just listened to Rob Jetten’s NRC interview a week ago; he expresses hope that European action will lead to lower illegal migration. But it already has! Asylum seekers are plummeting. This doesn’t seem to have broken through.

It might be hard to convey to people outside economics just how seismic this is. The Trump effect has most certainly arrived to US academia.
