Resistance Is Never Futile.

#TrekkiesAgainstFascism
star trek inspired illustration of 4 hands holding up a picket sign. the hands are wearing the colorful uniforms of the Star Trek The Next Generation crew. The sign says "Together We Resist." to the left is the Borg insignia, crossed out. sitting atop the "T" in "resist" is a drawing of a crown that is crossed out. At the bottom right of the image, the white text says "Trekkies Against Fascism."

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

AI art is not "a tool for disabled people", it's harmful to disabled artists who depend on digital commissions to afford basic necessities.

stop using disabled people as a shield for your lack of ethics.

This reminds me of how David Lynch said he wanted to keep working but couldn’t because COVID posed too great a risk & people stopped being willing to mask up to protect others.

Ableism is an insidious evil in society & healthcare. It convinces us to abandon each other for profit & convenience.

Enjoyed the New Yorker interview with Tim Curry, a free-wheeling conversation in which there were several sensitive questions about his paralyzing stroke. But oh my goodness, why was there no follow-up at all to this staggering answer? www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
Screenshot of text from the interview:

You’ve always been an incredibly physical performer: your strut during “Sweet Transvestite” in “Rocky Horror,” or the way you run around unfurling the mystery at the end of “Clue.” Do you still feel that in your body? Does that live somewhere in you still?

I think it does, but it’s angry. My mobility is angry to get out. But it’s not happened yet. I do a certain amount of physical therapy. I did a whole bunch of it at Cedars-Sinai, and I got very close, I think, to walking. That was tantalizing. For insurance reasons, I had to withdraw. And I have a visiting physical therapist now, but I can only really do exercises from my bed, which is pretty pathetic. It’s not going to get me walking, I don’t believe.

[I have underlined the sentence "For insurance reasons, I had to withdraw."]

Found this treasure in a box of old stuff. The collector in me says leave it, but the pragmatic in me says if you got it today, you don't wear it tomorrow.

Agreed! Don't get me wrong, I love it when Star Trek gets sexy. I don't love it when Star Trek gets sexy for The Male Gaze™ or The Plot 🧼🧑‍🎤.

Like, Star Trek is definitely allowed to get horny, but there's a right way to do it:
From "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". Worf lies on the ground as Jadzia straddles him, her hands around his throat. They look violently longingly into each other's eyes. Jesus Christ, this is hot. From "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". Quark lies on the ground as Grilka straddles him, her face inches from him. They look each other's eyes, sharing a smirk. She's going to tap that, possibly to death, and he's ok with it. [fans self at 5,000rpm] From "Star Trek: Voyager". Janeway passionately kisses Kashyk. Their eyes are closed. Her fingers are gently in his hair. HNNNNNNNNGGG MOMMY! From "Star Trek: The Current Generation". Spock and Kirk are doing battle. Spock is on the dirt ground with Kirk kneeling above him. Both of their hands are dangerously close at they each grip the long strong shaft of the lirpa. It is abundantly clear from how physical they get with each other that these two FUCK on the regular.

So the haters are already starting upset that a Klingon warrior is wearing a skirt. Well wait till they find out how Viking men dressed when they went into battle. Wonder if they think of them as "woke" fandompulse.substack.com/p/new-york-c...

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

I won't go on & on about it. But what Dr. Demento put out into the world was special. It connected who knows how many people to music they didn't know they needed. to weird music. to big laffs, which we need. his final show will cost you three bucks, but it's priceless. 3/3 drdemento.com/online.html

so, this weekend the great Dr. Demento did his final show. I could write a lot about the importance of his show to me & my friends when we were 12 and 13. there's more to it than "he played funny stuff" and "his show is where @alyankovic.bsky.social got his start." 1/3

Finding out that Jared Leto kept doing his method acting shit and insisted on staying in character on the set of Tron Ares and would only answer to the name of Ares is so funny, like making a big ass douche of yourself for the third Tron movie where you play “computer program that gains feelings”

If you are feeling overwhelmed and in need of soothing, I offer Kousuke Atari. I discovered him through one of the most gentle anime in existence, Natsume Yuujinchou.

He is self-trained in the hyper-regional, lilting tradition of "shima-uta," or "island song."

New York photo of the day.
Manhattan.
60°F (16° C), cloudy with increasing rain.
#NYC #City #Rain #Autumn #River #Park #PublicPark #TidalEstuary #CarlSchurz #JohnFinley #GroupNap #Pigeons #Siesta
Daytime scene on a rainy day in a large city on a riverfront promenade which is part of a public park, facing across a wide river; the river itself is actually a tidal estuary with mildly brackish water; all along there promenade is a curved safety rail, upon which hundreds of pigeons are lined up single-file, mostly of whom are resting with eyes closed; they are likely taking the opportunity to rest here because the rain has lightened some, and there is more heavy rain to come soon; in the distance is a smaller island which is still part of the same borough and has its own high-rise buildings; it is nice over there; the floor is all wet and the sky is overcast.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

It also made me think about how people complain about the way ppl who live on the streets behave, but think about how uncomfortable they are all the fucking time, rarely if ever being able to wash or hydrate properly. I hated everyone and everything after just 2 days - this is a constant for them.
