I found a 19th century Cat Villain!
A huge chonk of a fluffy cat sitting on a table near an open fire. The cat is cream and grey and appears to be shaped like a barrel in a fur coat. They are scowling fiercely with their moustache and bewhiskered ears apparently flowing back into the cold wind. There's a definite vibe that this villainous cat twirls their moustache as they evict orphans into the aforementioned blizzard and think Scrooge was an easy-going lightweight. They are magnificent.

💣CDC Cuts💥
Even with some staff having their firing rescinded, CDC has been deeply damaged by the cuts from 🧠🪱 that remain intact. We do not have a complete list as this was done in secrecy. 🧵

Mandatory recovery treatment doesn't solve homelessness, building affordable housing does.

I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE HAVE A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING THIS .....

This is true. I went to CVS just now to pick up some meds and the pharmacist gave me a $1000 in cash.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

Met amazing colleagues & friends in science journalism; helped organize a group to help change the distorted media narrative about addiction & pain (changingthenarrative.news), got lots of great new sources. twitter was once great for ideologically diverse collaboration in areas of agreement.

Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen.

He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.

This generational trauma ICE is inflicting will reverberate for longer than we realize, in ways we can only begin to imagine.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

but imagine the therapy bills your child will have if they realize they got named by a bargain namer ;-)

Trump says the US is in "armed conflict" with drug cartels.

Meanwhile, his DOJ is disbanding a task force that took on cartels.

Trump doesn't care about stopping drug trafficking — he wants to be able to declare war on anyone he labels an enemy.

This is a power grab.
