Oh dang, that's a lot of new followers.

Hi folks! I'm Jake (or Jaymic), and I do some freelance creative text work for Magic. Please expect most of my posts to be about said Magic.

I also dip my toe into story content creation now and again. Might do that soon if I can find the right platform.

I got very into FFXIV this year... so here's my WoL, Roslynde Lodieux.

A duskwight elezen (gray-skinned elf) with violet plaited hair. She is wearing a fur-lined purple coat, black skirt and longboots, and round glasses, and holding a grimoire surrounded by ice magic.

Yes. All the empirics on misinformation indicate that the way to defeat bad ideas is to mock and marginalize them. Constantly declaring "hey the far right isn't so bad" is a terrible strategy both morally and electorally.

My absolute favorite thing about Rise of Skywalker is the character Ochi (who you won't recall because he's barely mentioned/featured but he ties the ENTIRE forward momentum of the plot together)

This is someone's explanation of Ochi and what he did

Ochi is a "Jedi hunter"/Sith loyalist who Sheev, who must have been alive since at least 15 ABY or so, sent out to capture his granddaughter. He found Rey's parents on Jakku but they sold (!!) their daughter to Unkar Plutt to protect her, then he captured them and took off in his ship (even though Rey was standing RIGHT THERE YELLING AT THE SHIP TO COME BACK). When he couldn't get the parents to speak about Rey's whereabouts, he killed them with his ceremonial dagger, which he had specifically carved to visually demonstrate the location of Sheev's Wayfinder within the wreckage of the Death Star if you hold the dagger up at a certain angle and stand on a certain spot of land. For some reason. He also inscribed on the dagger in the Sith runes the coordinates to find the DSII pieces. He then went to Pasaana, for some reason, and Luke and Lando were chasing him presumably because he's a Jedi hunter and he knew the way to Exegol, which they wanted to find for reasons, but he died when he stepped into quicksand outside his parked ship and got eaten by a snake.

I was reading a lot of old Spider-Verse stuff a couple months ago. Seanan McGuire's Ghost Spider is always delightful. I'm also a big fan of Laura Kinney Wolverine.

Runaways was actually the first comic I read, at least 15 years ago now. Does the new run have similar vibes?

Israel murdered at least 46 children in Gaza yesterday because of the *unexplained* death of a *soldier* in Rafah.

And this is not understood by the US et al to have violated the ‘ceasefire.’

The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that Israeli attacks across Gaza since last night have killed at least 104 Palestinians, including 46 children, and wounded at least 253.

Since the ceasefire was agreed on October 10, at least 211 Palestinians have been killed and 597 wounded in Israeli attacks, while 482 bodies have been recovered, the ministry said.

Israel’s war on Gaza has now killed at least 68,643 people and wounded 170,655 since it began in October 2023, according to the ministry’s latest figures.

My cats have this meow that means “please come with me to fix this” after which they’ll lead me to the problem in question, usually a empty (or ‘empty’) food bowl or a closed door they want open. They look at the ‘problem’, they look back at me, clear message.

What fascinates me is how this illustrates what they percieve as being in the realm of my ‘power.’ I control the food, I control the door, sure, but my cats love to sit on the balcony in the sun, and it has happened plenty of times that on a rainy day they come get me, go to the balcony and show me... the rain. “Please fix this” they say. “Please get rid of the wet”

“Silly kitty,” I say, “I can’t control the rain.” I then walk into the shower and turn on the rain.

I hope this is a universal cat owner experience. Every single night he begs me to turn the sun back on so he can watch birds on the balcony. I tell him no, I cannot do that.

But I can turn lights on and off in the house and he’s fairly certain I’m just not applying myself properly here.
