Oh shoot this is what I should be doing with the Harry Potter book my kid brought home from school years ago.
Best use for it.
My bees have been doing fine without me, seem to have brought in lots of ivy nectar. I gave them some Oxuvar treatment and burned some more of a Harry Potter book in my smoker. I feel a bit better #beekeeping

Update: VicPD told CHEK the discrepancy between OT in its budgets and the FOI data is that its budgets also count "standby" pay as OT. That means that in addition to officers' base pay and $5.1 million in OT, VicPD paid out about $1.3 million in standby pay in 2024. cheknews.ca/17-vicpd-off... #yyj

Read news about weather in #yyj &people have FEELINGS about the colors used in weather maps. Red, orange, or yellow = fear mongering, as is having any kind of warning at all.
Even the news site said Environment Canada "snuck" the warnings in, like they're twirling moustaches while reporting weather

this month my body is giving me sneak previews of outcomes of another MS relapse
Big toe feeling strangled. One very specific part of my left foot and left arm going numb. jaw stiffness. Worst one was my tongue feeling like it had a cramp
this is scary, and it's why I keep moving as much as I can.

So glad we're losing services to increase Victoria PD's budget, otherwise we might not be able to enjoy extra fancy mall cops.

Witnessed a man in a vehicle get angry with two women crossing the street because he was full of rage and didn't understand unmarked crosswalks. He was yelling at them and I honestly thought it was going to get violent. Luckily it didn't but yikes. #yyj drivers why are you like this?

I *love* riding my bike in #yyj weather like this.
no, really.
It's not cold, and with proper gear you stay dry.
having MS means no guarantees: any day could be the last day I feel the rain on my face as I zip down the street.
every rainy day I can ride is a good day.
hot weather still sucks tho

Maybe the police could donate a small fraction of their massive budget to this instead?
Maybe the police chief could hold off on buying herself a new car with taxpayer money?

Think about it: if you want to increase either budget, that’s one thing. But if you want to decrease either budget, (likely the library) and the police budget has to go down the same percentage, it would make for some interesting municipal council debates and likely some different outcomes. #yyj
Police always get more and libraries always get less. Here’s an idea: Tie the budget for police and libraries so if you raise the budget for police, you have to raise it for #PublicLibraries the same amount. #MunicipalBudget #YYJ

An important thing about cities is that people are often engaging while walking, biking, or taking public transit, as opposed to the car-centric suburbs. Cars isolate us and make us angry and unhappy.
To piggyback off of John's point (reposted), it's struck me lately how the baseline level of friendliness in cities has always seemed remarkably higher than the suburbs or rural areas to me, and I think it's because everyone is used to interacting with strangers as a routine part of their day

If you go to a suburban mall, you will probably have to park outside and walk in. You don’t expect to drive in to your store.

But for some reason in urban areas it’s considered an injustice if you can’t park directly in front of the store you want to go to.

Also, was the police chief wearing pants at the time of this statement about years of inadequate funding? Because there was no mention of her pants spontaneously bursting into flames after saying that and I'm curious as to how one could be that much of a liar and not have their pants be on fire.
Chief: "In fact the vehicle I was given on the very first day, I was embarrassed to drive and... I wasn't convinced it was going to get me home." "As much as I have a great deal of empathy for your situation, what we're asking for is a product of years of inadequate funding."

"I was embarrassed to drive" looool this while I'm working in healthcare and we're currently cutting back on everything.
But oh sure our delicate police need buckets of cash so they can feel special and fancy while driving.
