It must be nice to live somewhere with rail and reliable public transit.
You must realize that you are far more protected in your car than I am on my bicycle, yes? Surely you can grasp that fact?
And you also realize that nearly all cities in North America are built around driving?

Here's the difference you keep missing: much of the world is built to make things easier, safer and more convenient for people who make the choice you are making at the expense of people who make all other choices.
You have the privilege to choose the safest option.
I do not.

So maybe stop claiming health privilege applies to all but those who drive?
I don't have a choice. I cannot drive a car for health reasons.
Transit is unreliable where I live.
Car centric infrastructure is harmful and ableist and the assumption that it is not is harming people with disabilities.

I sat on my ebike and used the throttle to get myself to ER while I felt the numbness spread up my legs. I wouldn't have been able to drive a vehicle.
If your body allows you to drive, it's clearly healthier in certain ways than mine is.

Why is it that folks don't seem to recognize it takes health privilege and wealth privilege to own a personal vehicle? I don't have your health privilege - my vision doesn't allow me to drive. And my ebike cost half what the vehicle my husband owns did (a 2000 Camry, he bought used).

It's not a "nice-to-have option" it's literally accessibility for people with disabilities preventing them from driving & people who are too young to drive.
I hadn't realized MS was health privilege. I was privileged to get to ER on an ebike when my last relapse took all feeling in my legs I guess?

Thank you. I'm doing my best! Some days are easier than others, but I'm doing all I can to make each day the best it can be.

The stats for Tesla's robotaxis are pretty horrible, so yeah that's not far off

In today's edition of Which Dystopian Novel Are We Living In Now, it says the vehicle drove into the store, but also says it's driver error?

it can't be both. Either someone done goofed up or we've gone full Maximum Overdrive.

Like, I ride a bike & use transit and I get cautioned about the sketchy people outside the parking garage by people who only drive. I know nearly all of those folks by name. They are all lovely people. I say hi to them on my way in and out, they say hi back and tell me to have a safe ride.

Yeah it's bonkers. It says a lot about our society's values are that we pay them more than paramedics.
Honestly, I think much of this is down to lack of reliable public transit. We're told to fear others & we believe it & isolate because we've no experience interacting with folks who are different

If we expect healthcare staff to be able to deal with violent people without resorting to violence themselves, why don't we expect the same of police?
Honestly I think all police should have to do a few years as HCAs first.

honestly, having worked in healthcare, I just don't get cops.
like you've got guns and huge vehicles and body armor against mostly unarmed civilians.
When I got called in to do a 1:1 on someone who had already threatened/injured another staff member, I had scrubs and training in deescalation.

gosh and their vehicles are sooooo old. like SO OLD. the police chief is sad driving them. Police don't do traffic enforcement because no one pulls over - they just peel off into the sunset while laughing at the cops in their ancient beater cop cars with dents and mismatched door panels.

I used to be able to walk a couple km no problem.
And by used to, I mean like a few months ago. Then I got food poisoning and was out of commission a month and now I can barely go around the block.
Decommissioning seems to happen scary fast.

I wish there were any kind of consequences for this
