It was my honor to work under Sharon Camp at the Guttmacher Institute. She was a formidable leader, kind and curious about others, and made the best crab cakes I’ve had. What a life of accomplishment, so much to be proud of.

Furious Liberals Call for Schumer to Step Aside, Senate Dems Mostly Quiet

The person who oversees healthcare coverage for more than 160 million Americans is lying about healthcare coverage
Q: Unless ACA subsidies are extended, the average plan will increase by somewhere around 115%

DR OZ: Where'd you get that number?

Q: Kaiser Family Foundation

OZ: They retracted that. Here's the truth. The average American who's on ACA is gonna pay $13 more than this year. That's not a big issue

The Tea Party never reached the magnitude of No Kings. Yet it was covered as if it represented “real America,” just like MAGA today. Those are not empirical assessments, but articles of faith – ideological claims about the world that are widely shared in the American mainstream discourse.

Ask yourself this: How would the New York Times have covered the protests if it had been seven million MAGA supporters flooding the streets? We don’t even have to guess: We know how they and other mainstream outlets covered the Tea Party protests during Obama’s first term.

Look. These are Nazi talking points. That's not NICE to say, but it's true, and it makes me sick.
Stephen Miller: "The scandal is how Democrats & the left scarred the landscape of our country w/grotesque so-called modern art that celebrates ugliness ... very importantly, President Trump is making sure it's in the neo-classical design around which our nation's architecture has long been directed"

The huge No Kings protests, an estimated 7 million people addressing America's worst crisis since the Civil War, get a tiny headline on the New York Times homepage, with no photo.
Why does NYT think change happens only when politicians hold news conferences and not when everyday people take action?

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.

When the military recruits based on Charlie Kirk's murder, the demographic of people who will respond to that campaign is far more Christian nationalist than the population at large.

That's not an army being recruited for a _foreign_ war.

Are you Wide Awake yet?
Wherein I talk about how the heinous murder of Charlie Kirk is being exploited by authoritarians in much the same way Nazi party chief propagandist Joseph Goebbels exploited the death of brownshirt Horst Wessel in 1930.
In “A Darker Turn,” Harry welcomes an all-Contrarian panel of @gtconway.bsky.social, @normeisen.bsky.social & @jrubin.bsky.social to assess the aftershocks of Charlie Kirk’s assassination—has political violence entered the mix, and can Kash Patel’s FBI rise to meet it? bit.ly/DarkerTF

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
