COVER REVEAL! 🎉

After what feels like a lifetime, I finally get to show you what I've been working on the last few years! The long-awaited sequel, VAMPIRES IN PARK CIRCUS!

Coming Halloween 2025!

You can pre-order here! lukebelcourt.com/witches/two....
A photograph of the cover for Vampires in Park Circus. It is drawn in the same style as the 2025 Witches cover -- fine black lineart, but the colour scheme is red rather than teal.
A woman with long flowing black hair in a Kate Bush-esque gown runs towards the viewer. She looks behind her, afraid. Park Church Tower, a notable landmark in the centre of Park Circus, looms behind her. The same golden magic from the first book explodes from her head like psychic power.
The photograph is taken in a park, with tree cover behind it. The epigraph to the book:

"A vampire moves to Scotland and makes friends with a local human at a bar.
'It's hard, not being able to go out in direct sunlight,' the vampire says.
'How long has it been since you've seen the sun?' the local asks.
'Since I died, nine years ago,' the vampire says. 'You?'
The local finishes his drink. 'Fifteen long years. I remember it like it was yesterday.'

Whoever said you should ‘space out your annual leave’ was clearly lying

Tomorrow I finish my shift, go shopping for multiple days of snacks and ready-meals, begin a four day weekend to play Pokémon ZA

Then potentially I have jury duty for 2 weeks, going right into World Fantasycon, the release of Vampires, and then I have Christmas to look forward to

Life is good

Not caught up in time for the release of VAMPIRES?

In the UK, the paperback of WITCHES OF MERCHANT CITY is now available for a tenner! (And in the US for $12!)

The new front cover of Witches of Merchant City, drawn by Jenni Coutts. Intricate black-and-white lineart depicts a woman with a side-cut and a black leather jacket, in front of Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA). Golden energy crackles from her hands, and green clouds swirl behind.

I have a wonderful bit of good news to share!

I have a new literary agent and am now represented by @keiralekseii.bsky.social of Azantian Literary Agency!

The moment Keir and I connected, I knew she was the perfect person to represent my work. I cannot wait to see where we go from here. 🥰✨
Pictures of author Maya MacGregor and literary Keir Alekseii on a mauve background with the silhouettes of a forest, photos of brambles, and the text: “I am represented by Keir Alekseii! Announcement! New representation: Keir Alekseii of Azantian Literary Agency”

They won't be named or interviewed either. They will be referred to as prisoners, not hostages, despite many of them being detained for no reason and having no charges levelled against them. All because their kidnapper was a brutal, authoritarian regime.
trickycrayon.bsky.social
We are over 10 minutes now on coverage of the hostages being reunited with their families.

There was honestly a less than 30-second spot showing some of the buses coming in with Palestinians.

1700 people were held with no charges or convictions.

No happy videos of reunification there.

Similar to my post about "liberation means even for that annoying guy you hate" - weird art includes art you personally don't get, don't like, wouldn't spend money on, find unsettling. Games you wouldn't play. Books you wouldn't read. Decommercialise your preconceptions of what art deserves to exist
shaydh.bsky.social
Everyone saying "make weird art!" you better fucking mean it. There better not be an unspoken "but not too weird" tacked on at the end.

Look you just have to make the cool weird shit that excites you. You must. In this world besieged by bland, scrubbed boring, computer slop, you must. Make the thing you’re embarrassed to make, the thing that feels “too much” because otherwise we get drowned in a sea of cowardly work made by a button

It makes me ashamed to be a human being. There are no words to describe the tragedy that has been wrought on the Palestinian people.
lukebelcourt.com
Watching people return to a home that has been completely levelled. Parents mourning their children on a scale that is completely impossible to imagine

Palestine must be freed. Every penny that has come out of this country to fund Israel's genocide is a blood debt we will never repay.

People who think the idea of "give me ideas" is something genuinely creative people want have literally never experienced the absolute EUPHORIA of a brainstorming breakthrough, either solo or with a human collaborator. They don't understand what is happening when artists create, on a basic level.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
