Stephen Miller’s ancestors were Jewish refugees from the pogroms in czarist Russia. They came to the U.S. in the early twentieth century, even as racists said this same stuff about them.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

This entire theatre has nothing to do with "cooperative federalism". Either Ottawa doesn't understand how Canadian federalism works, or they are playing a purely tactical game by exploiting the institutional ambiguity entailed in the division of powers.

The PWHL was very clear that they would not play in a smaller arena. Some of us tried to get council to take them seriously when we voted on Lansdowne 2.0. If this bad deal costs us our women’s hockey team, it will be unforgivable.

1. Wish I was surprised, but this is another byproduct of the suburban/rural dominance of council. The major disappointment though is the vote in favour of Lansdowne by @stephanieplante.bsky.social, the Rideau-Vanier councillor . Let me explain why as someone who lived in Vanier for many years.
Lansdowne 2.0 passes 15-10.

As a group dedicated to financial transparency and smart investments in community infrastructure, we had concerns around the reporting process and special financial treatment given to Lansdowne 2.0, as well as the lack of tangible transit improvements.

After a brief respite following the last election, Ottawa council is reverting back to its usual M.O.: projects in the urban core being adopted only because of the votes of the mayor and suburban/rural councillors, public infighting and the politics of the #WatsonSutcliffeClub
Just now - Councillor @shawnmenard.bsky.social
is interrupted by Councillor @timtierney.ca while asking questions on Lansdowne.

Menard pushes back, then Tierney calls him an "asshole". This behaviour is unbefitting of a councillor, and demands an integrity complaint.

Overconfidence in "econometrics" at the expense of sound analysis of the politics of policy-making. A long-standing issue that should, by now, be well-known.
The key to understanding Carney‘s politics is, as an economist, he sees the world in terms of models. That’s what he meant when he promised to “govern in econometrics.” But that only works when a) your model somewhat reflects reality, and b) one remembers that models are simplifications of reality.
Will Carney’s budget finally reveal where the prime minister is taking Canada?
The Liberals won the election on Carney’s promise to “win” the trade war with Trump. So now what?
