Thread. True.
I think about this as being part of tech’s midlife crisis, and to differentiate tech from technology. Tech was a class of software that came up between 2000-2012ish that was genuinely disruptive and innovative, but now, over a decade later, is an established and mature business.
i think it's useful to look at areas where the *tech* has gotten much better while tech *interactions* have gotten way worse. streaming has gotten worse, google search has gotten worse, digital cameras are leaps better. apple's silicone is so good it's threatening their user upgrade cycle

I'm sorry it's cold in the UK. If it's any consolation, it's 33 here, and I've spent the last 7 days swimming, and drinking cold beer while the beach shack people feed us lovely food. Goa is nice at this time of year. And you will be pleased when we arrive home on Thursday, to probably minus 1.

The Nazis used the term "Lying Press" (Lügenpresse) to discredit and censor all dissenting media, simultaneously targeting journalists, and seizing, and giving their political allies control of news outlets to crush any opposition.

Just mentioning that now for no reason at all.

Trump said today he'll be pardoning former Honduran President Juan Hernandez, who was convicted of drug trafficking and weapons charges in 2024 and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Waging a drug war on Venezuela while pardoning a narco-terrorist takes hypocrisy to a level once thought impossible.

Sounds a lot like the UK Farage wants for us.
JD Vance's ideal America is a place with half the GDP where everyone with potential and options gets the fuck out, a shithole that people from countries with actual dynamism visit to watch chintzy 'traditional' dances before going home.

Just catching up. Badenock's "no welfare state back in Roman times / the state could be seen to be anti Christian" is being understandably derided as a gaffe.. But actually I think this is a US Christo right push.. no empathy, no care for others. This is Vance and co thing..It's intentional.

While we are talking about alleged Russian money, lets not leave our Aaron Banks.. and the Tories who killed the investigations into him..
Here's UKIP's former Scottish leader David Coburn, who has denied taking Russian bribes after being named in Whatsapp messages between Nathan Gill and a pawn of the Putin administration, being applauded by Gill for arguing against Ukraine's entry to the EU

It's pretty fucking amazing isn't it, that the grifting thieves who broke us out of the EU so we could "make our own rules because sovrenty (sic))" are now screaming that everyone should leave for places like Dubai, because the UK is an awful place to be. The cynical, theiving, gymnastics of that.

Very fair points.
Felt like this when mortgage payments went up a few years ago - yes, it's horrible to now be paying an extra £200 a month, but that's been happening to renters year on year and there were no sadface articles on that, just "market forces" and "nobody has a right to live in a city"
This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

Reform is a party that says things that appeal to racists, fields racist candidates, fawns over racist world leaders, made a convicted racist guest of honour at their conference, and whose leader refuses to outright deny having racially abused people.

If only there were a word for such a party.
