Thing is, you flirt with white supremacy, you get a big hit of publicity & approval from the white supremacist media network that sprawls across this country. It's heady.

But then you leave that bubble & encounter the larger public & realize, oh, huh, they're not into this garbage, oops.

Just noodling on an idea—US power in the world for nearly a century has been military, sure, as well as economic, but both of those were based on technical and scientific skill. Ability to maintain weapons and build new stuff. And we're nixing all of that. Bill's gonna come due.

the balance hasn't remained constant, but people have long wrongly seen the NYT as a liberal publication that feels the need to bend over backwards for conservatives to fight bias charges, when in fact it's a conservative publication aimed at convincing liberals. they're more open about that now

"Individual liberty" is when conservatives decide everything. Their concept of liberty is just domination, not freedom to do what they want, but freedom to force everyone else to do what they want. bsky.app/profile/donm...
The only way to assure individual liberty is to hand unprecedented governmental power to the guy engaged in blatant democratic backsliding
Kavanaugh: Broad delegations to unaccountable agencies are dangerous for individual liberty! We have used the major questions doctrine to prevent agencies from overreaching.

we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

It’s very funny to me that countries are trying to pass laws banning teens from social media until they’re older and can “handle it” as if the last decade hasn’t been about watching rich middle aged men nuke their brains on Twitter and then run the USA via shitpost.
Dude. Yes. Alito and Thomas are of course the standout examples, but all of the Republican justices have tells in their writing and their questioning indicating that they are, to varying degrees, marinating their brains in dumb bitch juice
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.

If Democrats were smart, they'd find ways to give ICE the USAID treatment while putting CBP under the jurisdiction of DOJ instead of DHS since it technically is law enforcement. Also, potentially spinning of ICE-HSI versus ICE-ERO.
This actually means effectively defunding ICE but funding the ever loving hell out of CBP and putting a hard-nosed chingón from the RGV in charge of it.
This is the big thing. One of the fascinating trends with Latino voters is they typically do not prioritize immigration (they tend to care about the economy, health care and education) UNLESS they feel uniquely targeted. This happened with Prop 187 and SB 1070

Sadly, Trump saying that word would always going to open up the floodgates. When Trump won, FT quoted a banker saying he felt "liberated" to say "pussy and retard." When Trump said the word, Jack Posobiec said "Trump just officially gave us the word retard back."
