Just to give it a bump: SideQuested is a refreshing piece of fantasy webcomic that is absolutely worth your time reading.

It has a Robert Asprin quality of humorously subverted tropes coupled with an engaging storyline. I look forward to every update.

This is what generative AI does.

Generative AI is late stage capitalism: commercialize artistic content, prioritize corporate brown slop, commodify the artistic process, and then automate it.

Generative AI is the fruiting body of a mycelium network that has been consuming our society for decades.
yeah they completely took away the wonder i had about the communities around the systems i love

everyone i know keeps telling me to either adapt or die or it's not a big deal

but it is. it's deadly.
and it just killed the old me.

I always come back to Death’s line in Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather:

HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.
Morning thoughts about "AI".

Where do we go from here?

Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles for no good reason
daiz.moe/crunchyroll-...

A ton of research and effort went into this one. This is the article to read to get to the bottom of Crunchyroll's subtitle changes!

Replies here will show up as comments (eventually)
Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles for no good reason | Daiz.moe
With the Fall 2025 anime season, Crunchyroll demonstrates zero respect for anime as a medium as the presentation quality of its subtitles reach an all-time low.

WRITING TIP, something simple but it catches many of us out: if you have a great/fun idea for your story, *use it now*.

Don’t save your ideas for some nebulous other story you might write tomorrow. I promise you’ll have more.

Break your story’s status quo. Go a step further. Use the big idea.

especially applies to monthly comics. don't save that amazing thing for the second arc. there's a high probability you'll never get a second arc.

I've shopped for a decade or two under the philosophy that there are no sales, just brief periods when things aren't as overpriced.

I have only felt more and more justified in that philosophy over that time period.

In case you’re wondering why Pete Hegseth is freaking out about a congressional video reminding the military not to participate in illegal orders:
To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

In the spirit of Thanksgiving Dinner conversations, I would like to point out that Steve Miller’s uncle has policy called out Steve Miller‘s hypocrisy and general xenophobia.

May Steve Miller’a uncle live a long and happy life of peace and joy.
May Steve Miller be visited by three spirits.

I can only think of one person for whom this is true and it’s Stephen Miller, who for some reason will not rest till the US reproduces the violent xenophobia that made his and my ancestors flee eastern Europe. The rest of his family seems normal, though
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

they can't handle meritocracy
I think a lot of what leads to the "god bluesky is SO MEAN i'm going back to Muskland!" dynamic we see here is that, on Twitter, engagement is driven entirely by a politically motivated and largely broken algorithm that keeps a lot of bad faith ideas safe. That is not so on Bluesky.
Bluesky doesn’t have a central algorithm that’s forced on everybody, and allows users to create their own feeds.

I think that is the *only* ethical model for social media going forward:

An excellent thread, which I will add one extra dimension onto.

People who are posting online fall into two camps: those writing for a small in-group and those writing for a large out-group.

In writing, your audience matters …
This is another widespread trope on Twitter at the moment. It’s ’the Queers went too far’ & includes strawmen arguments as in here (1) ungrateful Queer ppl & (2) in other cases, the inclusion of trans ppl in the community. It’s a ridiculously stupid & rightwing piece of rhetoric. Let’s examine it*
