Columbia and Northwestern are the academic homes to the most prestigious journalism schools in the country and they are the two universities that caved to the Trump administration’s extortion demands that are directly connected to the First Amendment. Just gonna sit with that for a while.

The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

This month, HUD announced that funding for its housing program for people at risk of/experiencing homelessness would no longer go to applicants that recognize that trans people exist.
The Admin is being sued for adding this and other illegal conditions. This is good news!

— The guy arrested after an agent punched/dragged his face on the ground was never given medical attention
— When he told this to an EPD officer later, another agent (who'd aimed his pistol at the crowd) dismissed it by saying "I'm a paramedic"

In love with these snowy owls! They are gifts to Chicago’s Montrose Harbor from the Arctic. Edgewater is a perfect backdrop. Very impressed how the crowd kept respectful distance. It’s helpful that the pier is horseshoe shaped. The owls chose well.
