I‘ll say it… celebrating thanksgiving, even if it’s just y'all eating food, is wrong. You don’t have to say “Happy Thanksgiving”. I get doing the dinner on thurs because that’s when we are all free. but, call it a fall harvest, learn about land back, uplift indigenous people. Don't Support Genocide.

Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was born 193 years ago today: Nov. 26, 1832.

She was a doctor, Civil War surgeon, and women's dress reform advocate, but is best known as America's only female Medal of Honor recipient. Here's a great 2019 We're History article about her from author R.E. Fulton.
Dr. Mary E. Walker: “Clothes Make the (Wo)man”
“It is a shame that people who lead reforms in this world are not appreciated until after they are dead…”

I am, in general, an individualist -- I value my personal freedoms very highly.
At the same time, I could never in a million years take the attitude I see from car drivers, who think the idea of paying a tax in order to offset some of the costs to the public of the roads they use is an outrage.

"I DNF first-person books if I can't relate to the protagonist" is a kind of illiteracy.

The point of first person is not to insert yourself into a narrative. You are supposed to experience and empathize with the perspective of a character that is intended to be fully fleshed out.

We’ve been getting a lot of questions about when border agents can legally conduct searches of travelers’ electronic devices at international airports and other ports of entry. Unfortunately, the answer isn’t simple.

That certain provincial premiers invoke the notwithstanding clause of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as a tool to ram through legislation that would otherwise be unconstitutional speaks volumes about their contempt for democracy. That the news media normalizes this is unacceptable.

On the bus to #yyc to do a panel opening Calgary Climate Week tomorrow. I can read, work, and bsky. Why does everyone drive? It’s usually the low friction choice. Proper high frequency public transit connected to city transit services and spend less making individual travel faster and we all win.

They also generate thousands of jobs, reduce our exposure to volatile gas prices, and allow us to stick two fingers up to fossil-fueled dictators.
