I am done "reading" the book for class this week. But dear Lord that I do not believe in, if I have to read another book written by a white man, published 1980-2000 about "American Religion" that only mentions Protestantism and thinks the 1990s were a bastion of peace and harmony, I will scream. 1/

Sounds like a great way to dismiss the most vulnerable groups. Like you said, as a medically abandoned chronic pain patient, my baseline is probably someone else's 7 or 8, and neurodivergent people often have flat affect in facial expressions.

My goal is to make as much on the paperback as I do on the ebook. So for a $2.99 ebook (I write novella length a lot <40K) I make ~$2 so my goal is to make that on a paperback version. I'm sure that's not right but if I make more on Amazon's paperbacks, hooray (I do 'zon and D2D).

I'm halfway through working on big revisions to chapter 4 of my thesis. Hell yes I'm self-publishing. The one publisher I'd consider does a 60/40 NET split (authors get 60%) and I don't know that I trust the publisher's "free marketing exposure". Niche book. Niche topic. Let me build my audience.

I do my own covers (deposit photos stock images) and for the most part I have an idea. Rarely I use GotCovers and I go to them with the idea. But I may find that either my photoshop skills are lacking or the idea isn't quite what I thought and I'll try again.

I feel like this is yet another way our society hurts disabled people. When my stomach acts up all I can do is drink smoothies and I put a scoop of protein powder in them, sometimes 2/day, so I get my nutrition. But also I find it fascinating that the expensive brands have the most lead.

Just got word my 2026 calendars have shipped. I am a) on the ball for at least one thing and b) eternally hopeful I survive this year.

Also they are horse calendars (one for office cabin, one for dining room) and now I'm thinking spouse needs a frog calendar for his daily med notations.

A student on TikTok has been documenting her journey with a professor who “wrote” the anatomy textbook and it’s all a bunch of AI hallucinations.

She’s saying that, understandably, the students are doing super poorly!

Behold what we’re teaching the healthcare professionals of tomorrow:

A diagram of the bones and (some) deep muscles of the hand and forearm. AI says that we only have four digits. It’s also identified a tendon as the median nerve, another tendon as the ulnar nerve, among other issues.

An AI generated diagram of the muscles of the neck. It hallucinated the “ennocleidomasid” muscle, and the “anterior scalpalin muscle”.

An AI generated diagram of the muscles of the lateral thigh. It says that the gluteus Maximus (the big juicy butt muscle) is on the anterior side. It also points to the quadriceps muscle and says “attattment”. It also says that the same structure is the tibia AND the deep fascia of the leg.

An AI generated diagram of the bones of the hand and forearm. This time AI says we have 6 digits. It also says that the radius is the ulnar artery. Among other many issues.
