You won’t magically age out of most of the bothersome mental tics you have & it’s totally possible to be 80 & think everyone is cooler than you, or everyone is mad at you & you’re “in trouble.” You actually have to work to unlearn that shit or you risk it persisting your whole life.

You have much more control over the tenor of your internal monologue than most people think. You actually can teach yourself to not be a total asshole to yourself & others in there. It takes time but with some persistence you can make the inside of your head a mostly pleasant place to be.

Also if you’re vain & have been riding on youth, now is the time to start moisturizing & wearing sunscreen & hats regularly. The gulf between graceful & ungraceful aging starts widening precipitously in your 30s, & life is harder for women especially if they look old. Tapping the brakes can help.

Change is the only constant and building a life around fear of change & death in all its many forms (entropy, endings, aging, jealousy, etc.) is a huge waste of time. Better to do the work to accept & even embrace it. Good or bad, nothing lasts, even you, & that’s what makes life precious!

I’ve been thinking about the cost of repairing everything broken in people’s apartments during these raids. Broken windows, broken furniture, how many of these people afford to fix their broken homes? Obviously the government won’t pay, so they’re just stuck.
