Hey all, my son’s 6mo-old step-sister was diagnosed with a rare liver #cancer last week. She started chemo today. We are raising money to help defray lost wages and medical expenses for her mom. Any help, even a boost helps! #MutualAid #GoFundMe #PediatricCancer

As I said last night, forced statelessness, de naturalization and genocide are all interacting in separate processes as part of a much larger ongoing system of infrastructure building leading to ethnic cleansing and genocide that is already in action within the country and across the globe

I’ve said this before. ESPECIALLY if you are in any marginalized community, preserving your own story for future generations is resistance. And not just digitally, though digital preservation is good. Print out pictures. Save physical letters. Make phys storage copies of videos. It’s all important.
“History shows that those who seek to erase, distort, or control a people’s story often target libraries, archives, teachers, records, and public forums first.” We’re living that history now. But you can be the librarian of your own life. Record, document, annotate & preserve what’s happening.
The Librarian’s Call: Documenting Is Resistance | Common Dreams
History is protected by those who collect, preserve, and share the facts.

Remember when Amazon held a sale during Independent Bookstore Day in an effort to undercut indie bookstores?

We didn’t forget. Support local bookstores during Small Business Saturday and beyond.

The Age of Wool needs to begin.

(If you prepare the fiber right it's soft, fully washable, extremely flexible weaving-wise, and it literally grows on livestock we already raise for dairy and meat. Stays warm when wet, doesn't trap odors. How is wool NOT a smart fabric??)
Ok Black Friday surfing has demonstrated the following to me:
- wool trousers simply no longer exist
- even wool-blend trousers barely exist (and so few washable?? whyever not??)
- the tyranny of Smart Fabrics (wtf) must end, except where indicated. It's wearing plastic. Would you wear a ziplock??

Reminder: you don't have to engage with AI as an instructor. You can talk about AI--even build AI literacy, if you want to call it that--and still not engage directly with a brutal, unethical, ecologically disastrous bundle of technologies. Regardless of institutional pressure, you can refuse.

These beautiful plant drawings were made by an unnamed Chinese artist, possibly at the behest of colonialist John Bradby Blake in 1771-2. Ordinary sticky tape is a nightmare for archives, but acid-free repair tape can be used to patch up torn pages.

When I was 8 I “helped” my dad and brothers build an addition, my job was to collect scrap wood. Imagine how ridiculous the headline “Family uses 8 y/o to help build addition” would be.
Last month, @theguardian.com framed this historical event project the same way; minimizing the years of archival work, the interviews etc it took to be able to do this.

Instead ‘AI solved this historical problem!’

A persistent myth is that US teachers are a left-wing monolith. It's a destructive myth.

"He says some teachers seem to make a point of working his legal name into every interaction, he told the Texas Tribune, outing him to peers and rekindling the dread he felt in his time before Ethan."
Teachers are outing trans students thanks to state's new "Don't Say Gay" law - LGBTQ Nation
His deadname is "sprawled everywhere," said one high school senior.

This shit is why I'm getting less and less work on anime and having to scramble to ask around with YouTubers for help letting me do their CCs just to pay my damn rent. There's enough anime to caption out there that I should not be fucking struggling.
After publishing this article, I've heard from many that CR seems to be using AI to produce dub CCs. Now, thanks to a slip-up CR had with episode 6 dub of The Banished Court Magician, we can say that with 100% certainty: Crunchyroll is using the AI service Ollang.com for its dub closed captions!

My mom bought me a living Christmas tree, and so I’m trying having a tree with my 3 Criminals for the first time. So far we’ve only put lights on it, and they’ve been interested but largely left it alone. But it’s only been half a day. #Cats

Fuel for my long held view that executives provide very little value and should be compensated around the middle of their org pay scale
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

Since administrators all over the country treat shared governance with faculty as a joke, they need to be reminded, it seems, much more clearly that faculty have a place in governance.

Faculty must unionize now.

The reason the top 10% of income earners pay more than half of all tax revenue is NOT because they are taxed more than ever.

Their tax rate has been cut FIVE times in the last 25 years.

They are paying more because their INCOME has increased astronomically, where the income of the bottom half has

It’s Friendsgiving so I’m cooking a turkey. Put the turkey neck aside in a pot of water to make broth later with the bones. Just heard a wet “plap” from the kitchen & looked back to see Yuan & Peanut eagerly licking it on the floor. 😆 Happy #Caturday.
