Sounds similar to the narrative we heard from the Minister the other day #nzpol

Republicans keep saying the “genuinely disabled” don’t have to worry about losing Medicaid.

All disabilities are genuine.

You also need healthcare to get a diagnosis. To get the paperwork done. To “prove it”.

They’re ensuring people get trapped in red tape loopholes so they can’t get care.

“We are trying to collect & safeguard knowledge that is there.
In many countries that knowledge is held by few and the way that it was transferred before is hard to do now. Many of our people are moving away from our villages to cities.”

Oh they think about it. They engage disabled people to say that they’ve engaged us. They hear all the concerns & then they go and do it anyway.

DPA & many others came out against this as a human rights breach & safety risk when they announced in the budget.

They know what they’re doing.

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Fun fact: when you have Long Covid but can’t work you have to go on the Jobseeker benefit because GPs can’t say whether you’ll still have Long Covid in two years - so teens with chronic conditions are now conceivably navigating absolutely debilitating symptoms while also getting zero govt support 👍🫠

imagine being the MP for southern māori and thinking the party of eruera tirikatene doesn’t have the right to stand in it. idiot
keraoregan.bsky.social
hōhā - it’s not the winning strategy my bro. Especially when you’re not even having proper face time with whānau in your electorate you know :/

Sorry but I get the whole alpha bro Māori supremacy vibes and it’s sooo cringe.

And then on top of that to then denigrate the whakapapa of the seat you’re sitting in. Like I’m not saying Labour was perfect, there’s a reason I voted for him last round. But at least have some level of humility & basic political nous. Like zero judgement eh. All you’re doing is making your voters
keraoregan.bsky.social
It’s fucking wild. I gotta be honest I am regretting voting for this guy and want to know who other parties are going to stand up next election so I’m not stuck with him again.

I thought he was alright but it’s so clear he’s on that gross racist side of Māori patriotism and it’s soooo hōhā.

USA: Mask rules are returning to Bay Area health care settings from Nov 1 as COVID, flu, and RSV cases rise.

Counties including Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sonoma, Napa, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz will require masks for workers, and in some cases patients and visitors, through spring.
Mask mandates return in parts of the Bay Area as virus season nears

no-one, certainly no-one in the public sector, could have predicted that the population would continue aging

"The government is spending an extra $1.6 billion on superannuation, because of an ageing population."

This is exactly the sort of thing it is impossible to budget for, poor Nicola. Snakes and snails! #nzpol

All this policy does is make those young adults who have the right to choice and control in their lives dependent on parents who may or may not actually be supportive, and who may well be unable to afford to meet their needs in this cost of living crisis.

It’s punitive, ableist & dangerous.

#nzpol
keraoregan.bsky.social
As I told @tvnz.bsky.social yday:in this policy the govt is creating a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist & is harming young adults in the process.
Disabled ppl aren’t on Jobseeker bc they don’t *want* to work. They’re on it bc they *can’t* or bc in an ableist employment market noone hires us.
keraoregan.bsky.social
Even for those who should quality - the govt has made the process so difficult and taxing that many disabled people who can’t work still don’t get signed off to go on SL and end up stuck on Jobseeker having to constantly prove they’re still too disabled & unable to work.
keraoregan.bsky.social
Suggesting that disabled people won’t be affected much because they are on Supported Living is woefully out of touch with the reality of disabled people in this country.

Disabled people are not a monolith. Many of us have disabilities & conditions that don’t qualify for Supported Living PLUS
