The most powerful military in the history of the world failed to kill all four of the men we falsely claimed were Venezuelans shipping fentanyl to the United States in hopes of starting a war with Venezuela.

Should we just start a war with Colombia instead?

Did you know the Oregon DOJ has a Federal Litigation Tracker on our website?

It includes the latest information about all our cases protecting Oregon’s values from federal overreach – including tariffs, education funding, AmeriCorps funding, and more.

“There’s no way I’m bending the knee I have left for a king in America.”

Damn. Just … damn.
Retired Army Sgt. Brian Wofford spoke to me this morning at the Oklahoma City #NoKings protest. Didn’t expect him to be carrying his DD214 so I asked some warmup questions like when he got out and whether his injury was service-related.

He paused while describing the car bomb in Iraq to say this:

The crowd did not disperse, an instead started playing Tubthumping by Chumbawamba — I get knocked down, but I get up again.

From a bumper sticker my great-grandfather used to keep on his fridge:

"Never kick a man when he's down.

He may get back up again."

While officers cleared the sidewalk and street in front of the Portland ICE facility, ERO agents ran out of the side for a targeted arrest. Lots of tear gas.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.

It's easy to tell Trump to contain his shock troops.

But bro, what *specifically* are you doing about the law enforcement *you* control? The video evidence is clear: Illinois State Police incited that situation.

I don't want to hear another damn thing from @govpritzker.illinois.gov until he addresses the abhorrent behavior by his state police yesterday where @katmabu.bsky.social got hit in the face with a baton.
Donald Trump's effort to deploy troops in American cities is not normal.

There is no rational justification for such a deployment.

It is a breach of the most fundamental values and customs that our armed forces operate on.

The protests moved and breathed and adapted like a living thing

The people took care of each other

They took a stand when it matter

More than anything the bravery unnerved the crowd control forces

For no reason at all: I suggest you take time & watch footage from the Hong Kong democracy protests — specifically 2019-2020 protests. Get a sense of what tech-enabled anti-protest policing looks like. Those kids came up with wild stuff to withstand/neutralize “non-lethal” crowd control techniques.
