"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Was honored to help @chana.bsky.social edit this deep dive compilation of Curtis Sliwa lore gathered over weeks. There is so much jaw-dropping material, we simply could not bear to make it shorter than 76 slides.
I’m sorry but you still don’t know enough about Curtis Sliwa

There is a large-for-Brooklyn grocery store a block from my house and I treat it like an extension of my pantry: oh, I want to bake something with currants? Off to the store, be back in ten minutes.
It's called a "store" because the way cities used to work is that they stored the stuff you needed and you walked or biked or took the bus there as needed to get stuff. But then we zoned corner stores out of existence and forced everyone to do big box shopping that only makes sense with a car
"do you honestly expect me to ride the bus to get food"

yes

As a Muslim living in NYC, this is so moving. Thank you, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, for being the person you are.
The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.

As is always the case with this nostalgia crap, "what they took from you" was the feeling of being 12, not any actual thing in the past.

(Also, those 1960s, 1970s cars were deathtraps compared to modern vehicles)

While cleaning up our Little Free Library I found a book explaining that COVID was an intentional lab leak by the Chinese government.

It went in the trash, under some very disgusting used rags, just to be safe.
If a book really sucks, it's ok to throw it in the recycle bin instead of donating it

People are probably gonna yell at me for this one but I don't care--there's some truly shoddy stuff out there that should be vigilante taken out of circulation bit by bit

I'll buy anything that @tkingfisher.com, @marthawells.com, or Bujold publish. (You don't even have to tell me the title, I've already hit the "Buy" button.)

Why do I have to find out about new books from Bluesky? Why isn't there a way for me to just get a "Time to spend money now!" email?

But these AI fucks don't want to do any of that: they don't want to go through the process of learning, of developing skills, of cultivating the ability to see what is in light of what can be. They think this process is archaic, outmoded, something that can be replaced with a tool.

We spent eight years giving the best centrist, moderate argument the Democratic Party could make the best chance possible.

And that gave us Trump.

So it's time for something different.

Time, and past time.
