me: haha yeah like The Red Green Show right?, that's a classic!

the quotes and replies: *a bazillion other very weird Canadian shows I had never even heard of* (some of which I may need to check out lol)
Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

I ADORE these. I can only find the big one at Sprouts but when I saw the bags at Costco I bought two and tossed 'em in the freezer. Still thinking about getting a few more in case they disappear.
I don't know who needs to know this but Honey Mama (local PDX biz) is doing some sort of licensed thing with the Girl Scouts and they made Thin Mint style Honey Mama bars 🤤

You can get the single big boy size at many places around town but only Costco appears to have the individual size mega packs

Help us tell the mayor his plan is bullshit.
Alright everyone! We are getting to the final few days to sign the Finding Home petition!

By signing this petition you will show Portland City Councilors and Multnomah County Commissioners that we want root cause solutions to our housing crisis!

the new season is currently airing (I have not started it yet) but if anyone wants to get the flavor here’s my thread on last year about the most unhinged reality show everyone should be watching
on recommendation from my sister, I am embarking upon the Hallmark Channel series FINDING MR. CHRISTMAS, a reality show for wholesome men to compete for the right to star in a Hallmark Christmas movie

so excited to learn more from these experts about straight culture

Once again the "we can't run a business unless we're allowed to steal" crowd not realizing how utterly pathetic that makes them sound!
BREAKING: RealPage is suing New York, challenging a new state law that bans landlords from using algorithms to set rents.

RealPage claims that its software, which landlords have used to collude on rents, is protected by the First Amendment.

This is a nightmare of a PR, and I'm surprised the maintainers didn't just perma-ban the author after his repeat unwillingness to incorporate any feedback whatsoever about his fully AI-generated code, complete with false attribution in the files themselves

like w-h-a-t sir please be serious
One of the many joys of using AI for programming is the creation of huge PRs on complex topics that the authors barely understand, but still suggest "because they work". Here's a great example from #OCaml github.com/ocaml/ocaml/...

Kudos to OCaml's maintainers for handling this so gracefully.

AI coding has revealed just how many people in our industry don’t appreciate that for any long lived code the cost of initial implementaion is absolutely dwarfed by the cost of maintenance. So much that for long lived projects we can consider: cost of code = cost of maintenance.

Yeah 😔 I know I’m not worthless, but I also know society sees me as worthless & that has real consequences
sick people should be able to count on social programs for care so we don't have to put ourselves through self-esteem shredding relationships just to get sufficient help

I feel so incredibly worthless today and am questioning why I'm even on this planet, and while part of me knows--

I can't help but caption this photo like the wee escaped bb alligator in Boston last week (or whenever it was)

"do you guys have any games on your phone?"

There's plenty to criticize here but if that's a rosary he's holding I want to slap it the fuck out of his hands
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

This whole thing is terrible (what the article itself details + the news site mucking up the article with AI) but the "oh hey, here for the article, what about us trying to sell you stuff for Black Friday instead?" really says the quiet part out loud about what the end game is for forced AI products
I was actually trying to read the article, but had to scroll past & work to avoid any stray clicks landing on this:

I'm trying to read the damn article, which presumably has answers to those questions, which I can find by ... reading the article.

Y’all, things are dire since my car has been stolen a week before our move. We were counting on having it. Things have been really rough & being on disability, which I’ve been on since my lymphoma diagnosis, limits my budget drastically. If you can help or share I’d be grateful.
