So I'm done sharing my columns every week here. In the off-chance y'all still want to read it, bookmark the site like the olden times and check it on Sundays after noon EST.

I look forward to absolutely none of you bothering. Again.

Bye for good this time.

Hell, the only time anyone here even SHARED it was cuz I linked part of one to some observance day. No one here gives a fuck.

And frankly, it's just been getting worse & worse here. I tried to minimize it cuz my brain's too broken to quit, but apparently it's not broken enough for here.
Y'know... I really truly think I'm done with this place. Every visit just makes me more & more annoyed by its unique & proudly practiced obnoxiousness.

I'm not gonna be sharing my stuff anymore on here, since I know y'all aren't reading it.

Reminder that muting specific words on social media for a day, a week, a month, or even forever can be laudatory self-care.

People think all authors are rich and royalties are a bonus. HAHAHAHA. Some of the books on that list I spent years making and have literally never earned a single cent from. Every time someone buys the book, or borrows it from the library, I get closer to that day, which may still be year away.

If folks could stop comparing piracy sites to libraries, that would be awesome. Libraries are a public good who buy books in bulk to benefit their communities, and when you read those books, they buy more.

Thank you for admitting that I am right.

Oh boy, the piracy advocates have found my posts about us getting our settlement checks and are big mad that I'm not grateful to piracy sites for "preserving" my very much in-print books via bootleg uncredited scans surrounded by scammy popups.

It's the personal stories people share about 9/11 that always get to me.
Here's a 🧵 of them.
All of these folks deserve to be remembered.
Remember my friend Pat Cody, who joined Marsh as a secretary & was about to retire, aged 55, a managing director. She worked in Midtown & was at the North Tower for an early meeting. The office was where the plane struck. I hope it was quick.

I don't think many homophobes are indulging in self-described "queer-inclusive media" to begin with. But even within non-queer narratives, asexuality upsets the belief that "everyone" experiences a desire for sex and romance. That's why non-queer bigots dislike aces.

But this is ultimately why asexuality is maligned in the queer community as well: If your definition of queerness revolves around romance and sex as proof of humanity, asexuality will always be seen as a threat.

Unfortunately, the queer community has shown that it will only support aces if we fade into the background and center other queer people's stories over our own.
Reposted by The Mela Experience 🟣⚪️⚫️
Instead, ace artists are frantic to establish themselves as "the most horny" or "the best at writing smut"--whatever positions them within the circle of palatable queerness and garners their work the most praise and support.
Reposted by The Mela Experience 🟣⚪️⚫️
This is an indictment, by the way, not praise. The fact that ace people can only have their art seen and valued if they erase themselves from the narrative should cause ace writers and artists more anger than it seems to.

Publishing rewards palatable queerness, rote romantic arcs and familiar fanfic tropes. Ace authors like Alice Oseman, Lindsey Miller and TJ Klune made it past the gatekeepers specifically because they decentered ace people and focused instead on typical queer romance narratives.

The idea that aphobes are all gleefully making anti-ace discourse blogs on tumblr circa 2013 absolutes the queer community of actually having to THINK about how they exclude ace people. Constantly "forgetting" to include us, not actively supporting us, is exclusion.
Reposted by The Mela Experience 🟣⚪️⚫️
I think that's part of the problem. No one seems to know any ace exclusionists, yet ace people are always left out or hand-waved away by queer activism and queer narratives. No one, apparently, is actively excluding ace people... they just "forget" we exist and say casually aphobic things.
