Incorrect the point of citations is to enable pointless but cool data viz
The whole point of citations beyond "showing your work" is so it's clear where your evidence is coming from. I'll be the last person to be a stickler about the specifics of a given style other than my deep and abiding hatred for APA but citations matter! They matter so much!

I see this take a lot but I kinda don't get it. It's so much easier now to find and access weird/niche stuff, if you want to. Is the idea that people don't want to as much? Because it's become correspondingly easier to access familiar stuff?
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

what if the real distinction is not between analytic and continental philosophy, but between cope (philosophers who want to preserve some intuition) and seethe (philosophers who are super mad about it)?
