at book clubs and literary events i meet people who are intelligent, discerning, and capable of having a good conversation. the issue is that they feel overburdened by life and simply want something that can tide them over and keep them going. they know it is slop, but that is the point

Israel murdered two kids in Khan Younis yesterday. I normally retweet instead of post but can't bear looking at the video

I think every character in every film should be a film actor, so this way their face looking familiar to you from other films won't break immersion

Liberal Zionism is 80 years of saying 'we just want a liberal international order based on universal human rights and the facts on the ground, and we will let you know once we made the facts on the ground the way we want them and it's time to start'

I didn't know Jeff Buckley took himself for a Nina Simone imitator but it makes so much sense, and it's so cool that you can imitate somebody in an abstract, spiritual sense without concretely sounding like them

There is a Penrose stairs effect wherein either adding or removing 'The' from the name of a superhero franchise when you reboot signals that this time it's more mature and darker

If you loved THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE, then you'll love its action-packed sequel, PRINCE CASPIAN! The Pevensie children are back, even Edmund, but what about all your favorite friends: Mr. Tumnus, the Beavers, the friendly giant? Well, they've been dead for a thousand years. Sorry.

John Cale's current artistic output forces us to ask: what is the inverse of 'my GOAT is washed'?

Guys I think I fixed Theory of Vibe: The autoencoder formulation had an absurd 'any two elements of a vibe have a meaningful difference-vector' implication. A vibe is actually a diffusion model whose latent space though high-dimensional makes sparse autoencoding (impossible in input space) possible

The point of Hegel is revisiting the contradictions that when you were a smart 12 year old made you go 'I should hold the concepts that produce these contradictions pretty loosely' but this time holding insanely tight

It makes me kind of sad that my work only ever gets formally cited in digital-media studies even though lots of literature and philosophy people seem to know and like it

Some of my core beliefs are: Marx, Carnap, and Wittgenstein are methodologically important, Hegel was on to something, 3rd Crit was on to something, Chalmers stuff isn't just confusion, comp cog sci is relevant, Symbolist Manifesto and Defense of Poetry were on to something

Randomly ran into this very sad first-person essay about dying early. I feel like a late 20th century overcorrection against existentialism left people like me with a false sense of having just outgrown this stuff www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
