Google AlphaFold. Humanity changing sh*t.
Cancer observations, high energy physics, cosmology, insurance, games. AI had been here a long time. GenAI is mass theft, but AI isnt going anywhere.

*stands and claps* yus! I knew someone smarter than me would show up!

I am pretty sure I was struggle-bussing through OpenCV training while Altman was busy fuckin' around with Y Combinator. The "tech" has been doing amazing shit long before it started gobbling freshwater and hallucinating prose.

Your book sounds both fitting for the time, complex and heartbreaking.

The president (or maybe not president) of Madagascar—a radio DJ who overthrew the island’s yogurt kingpin in a coup d’état—just fled the country in a French helicopter after Gen Z protests. I wrote about the most interesting island you know nothing about, with bonus pictures of me with lemurs:
The yogurt kingpin, the radio DJ coup, and the most interesting island on Earth
Madagascar is a fascinating island home to 30+ million people. It's also home to bizarre, volatile politics that virtually nobody knows about. And the president just escaped on a helicopter.

Invention and adoption are vastly different things and without financial incentive or hype? How you reckon people are going to continue to implement it? For charity?

We really gonna have grandma running Ollama next? Nope. We're not going to have accountants running Docker containers either.

*whispers* also there are entire datacenters of blockchain related miners gobbling power too...right?
justinseitz.bsky.social
Also I don't think people are conflating a financial event with a technology adoption either. The two are always, and will always, be linked. You cannot have a large uptake in a commercial tech without hype aka overvaluation, in my humble, university sophomore, opinion.

It's a whole vibe to be a masturbatory criminal justice advocate. But alas there seems to be endless amounts of them out here.

Sure! And we didn't have a Add to Blockchain button in every tool.

Doesn't mean people didn't advocate for it, or assure the entire planet this was the future of computing and security. Doesn't mean there wasn't a corresponding financial bubble.

We still just use (largely relational) databases.

*whispers* many, many of us were screaming about all of this long before Trump.

Many of us have been, for years, frantically telling people that there is no justice in the system.

So remember that the next time when someone posts an, "OMG Luigi is so hot!" - they are a big part of the problem.

Cuz sharing is caring and resource secrecy is for dweebs: For the past week, I've been starting my mornings by doing a lesson from this ridiculously comprehensive Godot Action RPG tutorial.

It's amazing. Dude basically teaches you how to make Legend of Zelda: LTTP.

Hm. I think some folks said the very same about blockchain tech, and you're right, we still have blockchain tech.

But not everything is on a blockchain like all the techbros said it would be and we generally don't spend a lot of time thinking about it.
