ProPublica spoke to about 150 people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.”

We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.

Can anyone point me towards resources/people in the Twin Cities who could help someone rid their PC, Android device, etc of surveillance software installed by an abusive partner? She's getting a burner phone tomorrow but her whole digital life and business has been corrupted.

Nobody should call these "erroneous" arrests. It's not happening by accident. Flooding cities with poorly trained ICE thugs to harass and racially profile is the entire point.

LinkedIn sucks, obviously, but it's extra crappy now. They've started sending these stupid "missed notifications" push notifs EVERY HOUR. I cannot figure out how to stop them except to block all LI notifs. Engagement at any cost, including raw outrage, I guess.

One of the most beautiful things I ever randomly stumbled into was the naturalization ceremony at the MN State Fair. The program was lovely and the new citizens were so proud. I'm not usually moved to patriotic feeling that much, but I teared up that day as my fellow Minnesotans took their oaths.
If you've ever been to a naturalization ceremony, you know they're filled with people whose palpable love of this country is twenty times stronger than the pinched "patriotism" of any native-born MAGA chud.

Just unspeakable assholery.

One of the things I love about @moonpalacebooks.bsky.social is that their price stickers are so easy to remove cleanly. Had lots of fun finding gifts today and even grabbed a whistle while I was there!

Amid all the hellscapes that our use of technology has enabled, I am grateful for live video streaming. A dear friend died recently and being able to watch his celebration of life online means everything today. Traveling to Toronto for it wasn't feasible.

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

The best way to navigate this is to BUILD AN ACCESSIBLE WORLD. This kills me, and in many/most situations isn't that hard, it shifts the burden of effort where it belongs (on institutions, away from people), and THERE IS NOT CHEATING.
The world just works for more people.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

The thing about butter tarts is that even when they're a bit overbaked, they still beat just about every dessert out there. So grateful I got my grandmother's recipe before she died.

Made my worst batch of butter tarts ever tonight 😔

Just finished listening to The Staircase in the Woods by @chuckwendig.bsky.social. Holy shit, what a wonderful work. Highly recommend.

Insignificant gripe of the day: it is pretty much impossible to buy a small (~1 oz) tube of unscented hand cream anymore. Had to get a 2.7 oz monstrosity today that totally throws off the balance of the toiletry bag I keep in my purse.

Ugh, didn't we just finish an election? No rest for the wicked, apparently.

Today is the day. It's a cold morning. The squirrels are fat and slow. You could probably catch one with your bare hands. Today, you could do it.

An absolute tragic loss in the disability community. Alice was one of the strongest voices we've had, and this world will not be the same without her guidance, especially during these times.
Heartbroken to hear of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social ‘s transition to be a crip anscestor AND feeling so honored to have been alive in the time as this brilliant human, and gotten to learn from her.

May her memory continue to always be a blessing.

There’s no reason ever again for any Democrat to suggest moderating on trans rights. There was never a moral reason but now there’s no political reason either.

Somebody tell Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg. it’s joe-ver.

Combined with the early vote for 8-4, we are already at 875 votes. In ‘21, 948 voted for mayor. It’s not even noon and we are at 92% of ‘21 turnout in this slice of Ward 8!!!
Ballot #569, Ward 8 Precinct 4. Hoping so hard we do the right thing! Thanks to all the election judges and Kingfield neighborhood volunteers!
