"Acceptable collateral damage in the Revolution," say the people who claimed to be too "pure" to vote for a Black woman.
Unlike most vaccine-preventable diseases, hepatitis B is asymptomatic and spreads silently until infected people develop liver cancer or cirrhosis in their midlife. It’s one of the cancers with the highest mortality in the U.S with a 6 month life expectancy.

CDC committee drops hep B vaccine for all newborns over objections from health officials
A CDC advisory panel voted Friday to stop recommending the hepatitis B vaccine for all newborns, potentially putting the preventative measure out of reach for millions of poor families.

Just because I don’t want you to touch the hot stove, because I don’t want anyone to, doesn’t mean I don’t think you kind of deserve what you get if I warn you “don’t touch that, it’s hot” and you call me a genocide loving shitlib and do it anyway.

the thing is that nascar drivers, for instance, try to wring every tiny little edge out of their cars and I think most of them could avoid being taken by a suggestion that they remove their car's engine and replace it with a power plant based on pyramid energy
the unfortunate thing about professional athletes is that they have spent their lives trying to wring every tiny little edge out of their bodies and this makes them extremely susceptible to medical quackery, which is currently having a renaissance
I don't even know how to joke about this

Looking at this up close it seems like some sort of illusion or failure of perspective, like the left side of his face is being seen at a slightly different angle to the right

I can muster up contempt as well as the next person, I daresay better than many, but I find it hard to really perceive/articulate what I intuit must be the degree of wrongness of these people, if that makes any sense?

every time I think about the Trump administration, my only reaction is rage and desire for justice against the leaders of this despicable movement
a house held by the democratic party may not be able to legally order people to go to prison, but they can sure run wall to wall hearings every day of 2027 demonstrating why these people *should* go to prison

I'm well aware that intellectual consistency has never been a thing that most human beings were putting a lot of stat points in, but it really does feel like this is one facet of the overall epistemic collapse project we've got going on, or at least adjacent/a symptom thereof

individual Somali immigrants who voted for Trump should burn in the same furnace of Hell as the whitest-ass coal miner out of West Virginia, no one should deny that, but I think it's incumbent on someone making that point to be clear about it, and this post is derelict in that duty, imo

this from the article is an interesting counter to the oft-made complaint (which I don't philosophically disagree with entirely; see below) that Democrats who talk about economic issues are monsters for not bemoaning the much more morally abhorrent boat strikes, ICE raids, DOGE deaths, etc.

I see defenses of genAI use, by people who ostensibly realize genAI itself is bad, in the form of "well it's really tempting if you're in such-and-such situation"

and increasingly I'm like... yeah, it's good at offering you what you want! that's how it reveals character! literally storybook stuff!

fwiw the current US admin is also a state bad actor at this point, though there is still reason to hope it will be less enduring than the current Russian state
This can be taken in two ways, and imo needs to be both:

1) good guys need to articulate more clearly that the goal is real, enduring peace, via brutal consequences for state-level bad actors

2) non-state bad actors (i.e. these) must also be furnished with de jure or de facto consequences
December 5, 2025 at 9:31 AM
imo, it's sort of a big issue for dreams of obtaining permanent geopolitical peace if every ostensible agitation for it in any significant conflict (so, not the USA just unilaterally raining bombs on innocent people, abhorrent as that is in vacuo) turns out to just be three tankies in a trenchcoat
I wonder if there is some South American version of Madea Benjamin that is throwing a stop the war rally where the crowd is decked out in American gear yelling at like Petro or whatever to give the US part of Venezuela. The ethnically American oil.

ngl if there's one thing we should RETVRN to about the 80s/90s it's actually being able to look at something that was fucking horrible to public safety and go "no, actually, we're changing this, we're not asking"
Public smoking bans just got in under the wire, too. Younger folks might not realize how rare they used to be and how hard they were to enact.
it is MIRACULOUS that we got rid of lead paint and asbestos when we did. if we had tried that today, there would be people whining about how we're restricting their rights.

Maybe you could build an “anti-war movement” which said, for example, that arming Ukraine to the teeth is the only way to truly end that war with justice; this would be correct but also entail kicking out virtually everyone who uses the label of “anti-war” right now

Pretty sure the reason we don’t have a Democratic Party “interested in an anti-war movement” is that being “anti-war” is not actually a meaningful or useful principle, as seen by virtually all the people who self-define as such being adamantly in favour of wars conducted by states like Russia
