Seems like an important point in the comments from Timothy Burke:
"they simply do not imagine that abundance as they describe it has enemies, that abundance is not in the interest of a lot of deeply emplaced institutions, many of which are not government as such"

Yglesias (and others like him) almost always argue something that boils down to: "Sure, tacking to the right isn't working for Labour right now. And it consistently hasn't worked here, either, and there's no real reason to think it will.

But what if it did work, huh? What then?"
matt yglesias' primary claim about politics is that to win elections, democrats should adopt the strategy which has given starmer a 13% approval rating in the UK

The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

It’s wild that we could actually hear Trump crashing out at the White House today. Phantom of the Opera blaring.

Freaking drama queen.

A clubby world that protects ultra-rich, famous, & well-connected elites who are sexual predators is gone?

Don’t. Print. Lies. In. The. Newspapers. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
This is nauseating: “As the emails stretch through the years, they show how that protected realm vanished into the mists of time, pulled under by the rising forces of the internet and the #MeToo movement.” A “Gone With the Wind” framing for sexual abuse and harassment.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

It is foolish to contend, as fools at the Breakthrough Institute do, that we should step backwards into fossil fuels via "all of the above" rhetoric & policy.

It didn't work. It entrenched those fossil fuels while harming people & place. And the world it arose within no longer exists.

No one did more to make sure Trump was rewarded for his indictments and his reward was to be exiled from DOGE to a race where MAGA will probably just hang him out to dry.
Acton: I’m running against a guy, Vivek Ramaswamy, who has said that people are struggling in Ohio because they’re lazy, they’re mediocre, they’re not working hard enough. And I can absolutely tell you that is not the Ohioans I know or see. I think he’s completely out of touch.
