Only people who've never been incarcerated by psychiatry think it's the solution. Only them. The doctors, the family members. That's what they tell themselves. People who go through it, maybe they're even grateful it stabilized them, mostly agree that it is a terribly inhumane experience.

I received a thank you from some library workers for this piece after a Chicago city budget was passed this week without the previously proposed library cuts I described here. Many thanks to everyone who made noise about this issue. There were wins and losses in this budget, but this win matters.

Lots of my arguments with them are basically me screaming that to White racists we will always be less than. They might use us and our yearnings for Whiteness, but they do not think of us as ‘white’ and we need to have a little self respect and solidarity with other racialized groups.
So many of my arguments with relatives are them essentially saying ‘we count as white’ and me saying ’ the white people cannot tell the difference between hindus And Muslims’

I'm not so easily shocked these days, but it might actually be shocking that the vice president of the United States is as violently, smugly, publicly racist as he is.

Ask any historian, and this is a standard experience. The project you envision you will write turns out to be something different in the end. Why? Because you go where the sources lead you, and you can never get there if you rely on technology that only builds off of established knowledge.
Absolutely right.

AI might be able to summarize (poorly) what we currently know, but a major goal of historical research is to find the hidden surprises out there.

Let me illustrate …
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

Switching to the Danish vaccine schedule in 🇺🇸 would be insanity. (1) The US, unlike Denmark, does not have universal healthcare, and (2) the Danish vaccine schedule is very poor (e.g., no chickenpox & rota vax. I vividly remember having those as a kid in 🇩🇰. Just 👎).

Reports indicate the DOJ has roughly 300 gigabytes of data in theEpstein files

That equates to millions of pages in document form

Today they released about 300,000 pages-none of which mention Trump

This appears to violate the law

Congress should subpoena Pam Bondi to see what she’s hiding
Khanna: "The law clearly required all unclassified information being released today. They obviously have not complied with that law. They claim it's because it was only a few weeks -- well they've known about this for months."

since poverty is the overwhelming cause of relinquishment, we should think of #adoption, largely, as a grotesque mockery of mutual aid: instead of spending money to provide material support to someone in crisis, we spend even more to complete the catastrophe to which the crisis has driven them.
i’m rereading Kathryn Joyce’s THE CHILD CATCHERS and I came across this passage, which characterizes infant #adoption in the USA: an industry in which clients purchase children with sums of money that often could have lifted those children’s families out of poverty “many times over.”
