It’s a snow day and I’m watching Goonies for the first time since I was a child (holds up!) and I gotta say - forget AI, it is so so so much more pleasant to watch practical affects and matte painting over even CGI.

We need a revolution and revolt for the real

Everything I’ve done I considered good or interesting came, usually through the gift of error, via a negotiation with the universe and things we do not understand (gravity, time). I’ve often said I’m looking for pictures I don’t already know and what the AI asks us to give up is literally our magic
Art is emotion through expression. AI does not think and it cannot feel. It is a program designed to scrounge the internet to pass things off as its own. All the while stealing jobs from real artists and soaking up drinking water.

I have rarely in my life seen someone so truly deserving of a vacation

I actually wondered a few times if he could transcend the time space continuum during his campaign
Man they’re already scraping the bottom of the the barrel for things to get mad about

So today online I saw that Sora has been making a ton of strangling women content, ChatGPT is badly advising millions a week contemplating suicide along with asking 12yrolds to send nudes, then capped with Elon agreeable girlfriend fantasy

This farm apparently hid their outbreak. The best thing that could happen for other farmers is for the CFIA to come down like a ton of bricks on any farm that does that. No compensation for lost livestock, lose all their permits, huge fines, etc. Scorched earth when a farm doesn't report outbreaks.
Katie Pasitney, whose mother co-owns the British Columbia ostrich farm where hundreds of the birds were shot dead in a cull ordered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, says she is focused on creating change for other farmers.

They would lose their minds if they found out what happens when you start to make entire streets car free
(And give people public places to sit the fuck down leisurely)
WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes
Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

My favourite books are ones that get online reviews saying “no one told me there were lesbians in this” and my favourite movies are ones that get online reviews saying “I don’t get it nothing happens in this movie” but also! “No one told me there were lesbians in this”

Peter Hujar's Day opens in NYC today and I hope some of you will treat yourselves to this beautiful, thoughtful escape into a vanished world. It's a small-scale, large-brained movie that blooms beautifully on a big screen. One of my favorites this year.
I saw a special film at the #NYFF: Peter Hujar's Day, Ira Sachs's meditative recreation of a 1974 interview with the photographer. Vividly evocative of a lost gay New York, and Ben Whishaw, using only a transcript, goes so deep; he does the kind of work that should be up for awards but rarely is.

I had to try to get ahold of a driver / contact uber support recently (couldn’t figure it out!)
And I feel really nostalgic for when you could call a taxi company and immediately you were speaking to a human being. and radios were used!

We’ve given up so much

I think Dick Cheney’s death today highlighted this divide.

The Democrats who still say shit like “reach across the aisle” and praise evil people are playing to a political audience that no longer exists.

Mamdani wasn’t cruel to Cuomo in a Trumpism style, but he didn’t concede anything either.
I love that Zohran did not praise Cuomo in his speech. You absolutely do not have to say nice things about bad people. We should normalize that in “polite” politics: Praising bad people is not actually “civility.”

New Yorkers just proved bold socialist ideas can win. Ottawa just proposed the most harmful climate and care budget since Harper.

Bold ideas win and we need to rebuild that kind of NDP.

I ran to go see and holy shit whatever mask she still had on is fully off, here’s some just absolute dogshit racism from her (she voted for Cuomo lolololol)
