Just learned that San Diego will receive $5m from then state of CA for community-based violence prevention. I worked on the first iteration of this program and am over the moon that it will continue. The community partners working on it are the best of the best. Huge congrats to all involved.

Lieu plays Bondi the infamous clip of Trump & Epstein partying together & asks her if there were underaged girls at any party the two attended

"This is so ridiculous," Bondi says. "There's no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime"

"I believe you just lied under oath," Lieu replies

Dem challenger to Issa files documents saying he lives in Chula Vista, but that’s not what his voter record shows (sharing a Kensington home with girlfriend Rep. Sara Jacobs).

The hospitals were in an extremely dire state already. Having to wash and re-use nitrile gloves was just one small example I saw with my own eyes in December 2023. Barbaric is an appropriate term to describe this new policy of blocking all fuel to Cuba.
The US cutting off oil to Cuba is truly one of the most depraved acts it is possible to imagine. Hospitals will close, food production will collapse, people will starve. It is urgent for US citizens, and every sane person, to oppose this barbarism with all their might.

A thing I learned when visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau last summer is that the dormitories were actually pre-fabricated horse stables. Built to house 50 horses, each one housed 500 or more people.
Right now Rikers Island, the physically largest jail in the entire United States, is holding under 7,000 people.

ICE's warehouse plans include detention camps which will hold between 8,500-10,000 people in buildings not designed for human habitation.

I was blocked from entering Otay Mesa Detention Center today to conduct oversight after receiving concerning allegations about conditions there. We've heard reports that detainees are throwing notes over the fences asking for help.

What are they trying to hide here? What are they doing?

San Diego Democratic Rep. Juan Vargas has been refused entry into the Otay Mesa Immigrant Detention Center. He sought to inspect after reports of substandard conditions. He's previously been allowed in. "Something has changed," he says.

Detainees at the Otay Mesa immigrant jail in San Diego have resorted to throwing notes over the wall to activists. They can work for $1 per day to pay for one $5 phone call. Some have been there for over a year. lataco.com/captive-lotion-bottle-note

A mansion tax is smart, but Measure ULA is dumb. Every city in California will pay the consequences if LA can't quickly figure out how to exempt apartment buildings from their sloppy mansion tax.
A debate over LA's "mansion tax" is playing out in City Hall, the state Capitol and on the streets with signature gatherers. I did a quick Q&A with LA Councilmember @cd4losangeles.bsky.social to talk about her surprise attempt at changes to the tax last week www.politico.com/newsletters/...

People are getting really fooled by things in the Epstein files. This is NOT a "Declassified FBI memo". It is a story told to the FBI by a CHS ("confidential human source"), who could be anyone from a petty criminal to a whistleblower to a propagandist trying to deceive (as here). Be smarter. 1/

A small group of retirees riding bikes in San Diego County tell elected officials & traffic engineers the design at left is safer and preferable to the one at right. It doesn’t matter they’re wrong, that it would halve ridership, they get an audience because their preference is a car-centric design.

San Diego reps Juan @vargas.house.gov and @mikelevin.org voted to ban the U.S. State Dept. from citing Gaza Health Ministry death toll in 2024. Israel has reversed course and now accepts the GHM number.
NEW: The Israeli military today accepted the Gaza Health Ministry's estimate of 70,000+ killed.

But in 2024, 62 Dems joined 207 Republicans to ban the State Dept. from citing the Ministry's stats.

Now, even Israel accepts them — perhaps because they realize what is feared: the toll is even higher.

San Diego's leading Chamber of Commerce is promoting and supporting GEO Group, the for-profit corporation that jails immigrants. @seanelorivera.bsky.social calls on the Chamber to disown GEO group and publicly condemn the Trump administration's abuses of San Diegans.
When powerful institutions choose corporate profits over our community’s well-being, we have to speak out. I stand with the people demanding an end to detention profiteering and silence in the face of abuse.

Community over corporations. Always.
