Hello! I'm Opal, I write horror, gothic romance, fantasy, and sci fi. Industrial horror of the future is by far the scarier, in my opinion. There's something to be said for dark, gritty factories, but the shiny polish of futuristic tech as a thin veneer over evil is intense.

Trying to survive my work day, this is what I told my coordinator about my last meeting:

I feel like a jack-o-lantern in December. Just melting on the front porch. Soon I will freeze like this. Deflated and discolored. What few teeth I have picked clean by the crows.

Keeping with the theme, thought it would be fun to share this anthology from a while back. Threads of the Infinite has a story of mine, Transcending Nature, which I fully intend to turn into longer form one day. And yes, dehumanization occurs.

Had I forgotten so soon? I told them the pain might numb my resolve, and yet here I was, doubtful, cowering on the precipice.

"Complete the transfer."

The pain recedes as a thousand eyes open upon my ruined shell. My eyes, full of light and renewed purpose.

"Who's next?"

I love imagining a post-human industrialized world. Something so efficient it no longer needs us. So it hums on alone, forever churning the ground and poisoning the air for a purpose long forgotten. It doesn't have the cruelty of human intention, but it will outlive that too.

As boring as it may sound, I'd prob go the old route of technology usurping humanity in everyday roles. However, some companies may feel it lacks that human touch... so then it's a case of making the best of both worlds, probably by removing the core of a person: their brain.
