Thing is, it feels on Bluesky like EVERYONE knows about this Unbound scandal now. But they don't. In the grand scheme of things - the grand scheme of UK book lovers, even - what this publisher has done to its authors is still relatively little-known. Coverage like this is an important step.

So, I think it's time I begin, in detailed specifics, talking about the mess that is Unbound / Boundless as a book publisher, in essence stealing most of a years royalties from me and many other authors, as a result of poor financial decisions, and legal BS.

In the last four months I have written 46k on an EXCITING NEW STORY. After nine goddamn years of writer's block I cannot express how huge this number of words is and how happy I am to be properly writing again!
(Yes, I know 9 years is an unbelievably long writer's block. Yes, I did try everything.)

So Unbound not only haven't paid their authors, but have withheld pension contributions from their actual employees. This just gets worse and worse.
An ex-employee has DMed me with some info from them - at the end of 2024, they discovered that five months’ worth of pension payments were missing from their workplace pensions. Apparently this was true for all Unbound staff. Not just the company contributions but also contribs from pay packets.
