A fun bit of Christmas weirdness is that most of my life associated a particular smell from my childhood with Christmas decorations. I never encountered it in adulthood but remembered it well and somehow daftly thought it to be from having so much tinsel around as a kid. Until...

It's that time of the year where I get to share this jaunty video again. Seasons Greetings from the dark, terrible world of the Blood Scouts!

Well deserved - one of my top reads of the year for sure!
My novel DEATH OF THE AUTHOR is She Reads’ Best Science Fiction of the Year.

Honestly struggling to accept that we've ended up in a situation where it's no longer affordable for everyday people to send each other Christmas cards (or even just a basic letter) in the post.

Had a dream that a woman on a train got scared by a spider so the government passed a law that everyone had to remain seated on trains and all times and it seems way too plausible right now.

Oh the self-destructive editing urge to turn every instance of "desert" to "dessert".

I'm giving away my writing skills book on my ELT site this month as the last in my series of free books. I have written about it on my blog.

Who wants a long-winded and ultimately pointless but also thrilling and mysterious tale of books? Then you're in luck.

So, this year I've been blazing through the Judge Dredd back catalogue, as I discovered I can get access to them through my various library services.

But Book 34 is cursed.

Thanks very much to Nils for this thoughtful review!

And I don't know, isn't it Christmasy in its way?!
It's A Month of Rain & Reads, and winter is just around the corner here in the northern hemisphere.

To get into the spirit of things, we want to share this review of A Winter's Mercy by @fantasticphil.bsky.social

NOT A CHRISTMAS STORY!

I've been meaning to read some Robert Jackson Bennett for many years but I'm halfway through The Tainted Cup and feel I wasn't adequately prepared for how very entertaining this is.

I have a hard time thinking of any setting I'd like to visit, or that I'd even survive in for an extended period of time.

That said, the Roc, from the Blood Scouts series by @fantasticphil.bsky.social is an amazingly realised setting, and I look forward to exploring it further.

Dealing with some Kafka-level nonsense trying to repair a cable in my hallway. Too convoluted to explain, but the result so far is that we now have another cable hanging across our bedroom window and our provider no longer has the right to touch the hallway cable.

I wonder if other Phil Williams authors get spam emails about my books the way I do about theirs.

Or am I just taking on the spam for all the Phil Williamses out there.

Had a lovely, tiring past few days at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social - even though the dealer's room was a bit quiet I feel our Syndicate table put on a tremendous display.

And we were within a hair's breadth of selling out of However Many Must Die in the end (thanks to Rob!).

Had a fun day running this table, tossing books at strangers, and even got a panel in.

You can still come find us at World Fantasy Con tomorrow for all your booky needs.

The Syndicate table is looking very spiffy at World Fantasy Con if I do say so myself. Featuring books from a tremendous range of indie authors including Rob Hayes, JE Hannaford, Alicia Wanstall-Burke, El McInerney, Graham Austin-King, David Green and me.

David's books are flying particularly fast!

If you're in Brighton for World Fantasy Con this weekend and want to check out a bookshop, I highly recommend popping into Afrori Books on North Rd.

On my way to Brighton for World Fantasy Con and in the time it's taken for my delayed train to arrive the glorious sunshine has died.

Though it was a bit warm for October to be fair, best calm it down.

If you're around for World Fantasy Con in Brighton this week and are looking for a genuine Phil Williams novel, here's the price list for all the books I'll have available at our table.

I'm about to start experimenting with how many I can fit in a bag to take with me on the train.
