Sometimes people tell me that I exaggerate when I say that the US openly hostile towards Europe. The NSS speaks a very clear language though, and it is a hostile one.
Europeans are waking up this morning to find the new US National Security Strategy (quietly) released. And what it has to say on Europe could not be clearer. On the „stark prospect of civilizations erasure“ for example. 👇

OTD in 1994 Russia signed the Budapest memo, guaranteeing Ukraine's territorial integrity in exchange for their nukes, 44 Ukrainian Tu-22 heavy bombers and 1,068 Kh-55 cruise missiles.

Which have been fired at Ukraine in this war.

Genuinely sad to see “Singer’s Corner” becoming a Gala convenience store.

I know it’s great to have a business open in the City, but we are quite well sorted in the convenience department.

Just saying.

I see that the “Cork Northern Distributor Multi-modal Route” route has been decided.

In plain English that means that Cork City Council plan to put a massive road through a special area of conservation and one of Cork city’s last mature woodlands in Glanmire.

So many small Irish businesses support and promote each other on social media, it’s like the way we Irish acknowledge fellow walkers in the countryside.

Thank you all for being so sound.

Patrick O'Donovan TD being utterly obnoxious on David McCullagh's @rteradio1.bsky.social Today programme just now.

It's perfectly clear why Judicial Reviews are being targeted in various media reports recently.

A major FF/FG campaign is under way, with the aim of ramming through numerous projects.

Pretty much sums up the moment.
Current US Policy:

If you’re suspected of trafficking a small amount of drugs with no evidence, we will murder you, but if you’re convicted of trafficking an enormous amount of drugs with copious evidence, we will pardon you. Because we are currently a very stupid country.

And this is just getting started on a global basis.

2026 will be a fascinating year in the world of energy.
Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

Thanks to JJ O'Donoghue and Tripe & Drisheen for reporting the legal farce preventing the renaming of streets, parks and other places in Cork and across Ireland.

In 2011, the law was changed — but 15 years and 7 ministers later, regulations needed to give effect to this are still not in place.
Bishop Lucey Park changed, the name didn't
In July, Cork City Councillors voted to rename Bishop Lucey Park. That was the easy part; now the process is caught up in legislation and a possible vote of the park's residents.

Survey: do you care about climate change

80% of People: yes

Black friday: want to fuck the climate anyway?

80% of People: fuck yes
Looks like the “consume less” memo has definitely reached the 80% of people who pretend in surveys that they care a lot about taking more action on climate change.

And everyone is totally not pretending to care like they keep saying in surveys.
Shoppers spent $1 billion more online shopping on Black Friday this year compared to 2024.

These 'green beans' in Lidl are clearly disgusting and inedible, which makes the environmental cost of feeding them on desalinated water and shipping them from Morocco, with the profits going to European corporations, seem all the more tragic and insupportable. No beans is a much better solution.
