Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

I really liked the idea and a lot of the writing in Demon, even as a staunch atheist. But it can be problematic when mixing splits, I agree.

It is interesting as a stand-alone though I think.

Huh! Is that from Ascension? I don't remember Avatars being pinned down like that, it kept it very open to interpretation and let different factions have different explanations of what avatars are. But to be fair I haven't read the supplements exhaustively and haven't read the other editions.

So yeah, WoD lore in other books heavily implies that the Christian god is real, but only because we are focused in on a group of supernatural beings that sprung out of western folklore, and that world is just one consensus interpretation of reality.

... admittedly it's a little headfucky.

I really like Mage's take that all gods are kinda real in the sense that they're all an emergent property of consensus reality.

Like yeah they're ""real"" but they were effectively willed into reality by people believing super hard in them.

They are as real as people agree they are.

Kiiinda? The Demon book definitely makes a strong case, but Mage makes it pretty clear that everything is kinda up in the air and even Demon can't prove 'em wrong.

It's obvious that WoD is built on Christian/Western mythology, which gets uncomfortable.

But Mage does kinda tear it all down again.
