having to convert patch notes / newsletters / announcements into bbcode, markdown, slack, the new wysiwyg steam editor, and / or email newsletter is I think a particular kind of hell, but bulleted lists are truly the nadir

My dad moved out to LA in the 70s to work in the industry and has had a great, fulfilling career.
All my friends & loved ones in film & animation NOW are looking for work, rethinking longtime careers, unable to continue work. It is so heartbreaking to watch the bottom fall out in real time

The most important human story in the entertainment industry right now is the severe downturn in film and TV production in LA and how it's affecting middle-class crew workers. I spoke to dozens of them for this story about the depressed Hollywood economy. www.wsj.com/business/med...
L.A.’s Entertainment Economy Is Looking Like a Disaster Movie
Work is evaporating, businesses are closing, longtime residents are leaving, and Los Angeles’s creative middle class is hanging on by a thread.

allow me to help remedy this by reminding people that the queen is releasing 6 new tracks for the anniversary 🙏🏼
there's a big problem with the culture here on bluesky, and it's that not nearly enough people are posting about the 10 year anniversary of Carly Rae Jepsen's groundbreaking and timeless album EMOTION being this year and how awesome that is

I can’t even verbalize how much this erasing of history distresses me, but I WILL use the opportunity to say that in the 18th c, Phila. law said if slaves lived there for 6 continuous months, they would be freed. Washington *rotated his slaves back to Mount Vernon* so they would remain enslaved
“The latest orders include removing information at Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in West Virginia, two people familiar with the matter said, where the abolitionist John Brown led a raid seeking to arm slaves for a revolt.”

Apollo 13 (the film) was what first got me interested in the space program. Lost Moon, Lovell's book that it was adapted from, cemented it. He was an incredible man, an unassuming leader, a great astronaut, and I am legitimately heartbroken that he never got to set foot on the moon.
BREAKING: Astronaut Jim Lovell, famed for leading the Apollo 13 mission safely back to Earth after a life-threatening explosion, dies at 97, according to a family statement.

Lovell was also the first astronaut to go to space four times and part of the Apollo 8 crew, the first to launch on the Saturn V rocket and first to orbit the moon.

it is no exaggeration to say that Hersey’s Hiroshima is one of the most affecting, devastating pieces of reporting in the last century. I don’t see how you can read it and not come away with the soul-deep belief that every nuke should be fully dismantled and the blueprints obliterated.
Read John Hersey’s powerful, unforgettable August 1946 New Yorker article, “Hiroshima,” describing the horrific devastation of the city as recounted by six survivors: a clerk, a doctor, a tailor’s widow, a German priest, a surgeon, and a Methodist pastor—the first unvarnished account of the bombing.
Hiroshima
A hundred thousand people were killed by the atomic bomb. Survivors wonder why they lived when so many others died.

Pro tip: don't listen to fictional books about things you care deeply about (space program), even if it's more of the Shuttle era vs Mercury / Gemini / Apollo because you WILL get mad that the audiobook narrator pronounces EECOM wrong and that the protag keeps "volunteering" for CAPCOM shifts
