Hey kidlit illustrators, I’d like to gift a free, one-hour, portfolio-review/coaching-session.

1) reply with a sample of your art.
2) repost this message.

I’ll pick a winner at random from those who do both. Win or lose, I’ll take a close look at every reply.

"If you don’t do well with insecurity or instability... then you have to consider what you need to do on top of writing books to bring that security and stability in your life." An EXCELLENT "tough love" piece by @katemckean.bsky.social about the realities of full-time writing.
I'm gonna get raked over the coals but I wrote about why being a full time writer is the worst job ever. open.substack.com/pub/katemcke...

Just heard an agent point out that if libraries are forbidden to buy a kidlit book, that book stands to lose like 60% of its sales. Individuals buying copies can't make up for that. And then the industry shies away from such books bc numbers, and the books don't get made at all.
That deciding to buy banned books for your own personal shelves doesn't even come close to solving the harms done by book banning, and actually we'd rather you show up and speak out at your school board and library board meetings and also help elect better candidates - or run for office yourself.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

I'll start: Amazon makes more money out of their Cloud services than out of their e-commerce platform.
