We, as an industry, need to teach people that crunch-induced burnout can be permanent. It's like Long-Covid or ME/CFS, you might spend years managing it and fighting off flare-ups, and for some it can be permanent and completely debilitating.

I'm tired of lactose free things actually having enough lactose to trigger an attack. I'm looking at you Alpro Protein Shakes 🫠🤬

Make it make sense that there's less lactose in extra mature cheddar than there is in a lactose free milkshake 🙃

A relevant reminder that stress over long intense periods causes cortisol over production which can cause damage to your digestive system as there is no where for that cortisol to go if you're not actually in a life or death situation.

Crunch is bad. Crunch ruins lives. Crunch kills. Don't ask for it. Don't do it. It's bad.

I can't believe I still have to say this after all these years.

You don’t understand, we gotta burn out senior experienced devs, so we can keep having the same 5 discourses on a loop. There is a very real risk that if we treat people with respect and manage them well that we might have to stop re-debating basic terminology and practices.

Had some kohlrabi in my salad today and *the cronch* is a delight. Also made a red wine vinegar and EVOO dressing that was just wonderful.

And if that wasn't enough, filters already exist at OS level on all major gaming platforms, replicating that functionality into a game is a waste of time and money.

...filters cause as many problems as they solve, are EXTREMELY easy to mess up ending up useless or harmful, and are not what colourblind players want.

They even block your game from being tagged as colourblind accessible in stores.

Don't do it.

Yet another game that made a colourblindness simulator.

#gamedev, STOP *£#*ING THIS UP, PLEASE

Don't use full screen filters, EVER. Don't use hue alone to communicate/differentiate. Use decent contrast. If you do need options, they should be for specific elements, not the whole screen....
I downloaded the #dragonquest7 demo and I think the like photo real doll like style is growing on me. It’s also a welcome surprise to see accessibility options for game play and various color blindness.

Got some snazzy blue light blocking glasses cause eyes aren't supposed to hurt when at the computer, and it's not normal to get migraines during a work day from eye strain... just as an FYI.

Absolutely baffling experience pitching a big, sweeping accessibility feature.

Gaming outlets: Apathy, hostility, ableism.

Culture verticals: Overwhelmingly positive despite it not being the kind of reporting they do, encouraging, an important story, sincere hope it lands.

When you "make it" as an indie, it's so important to give back and support others to help keep the indie market thriving.

Love to see this from the Kinetic crew and extra cool to see Southampton gamedevs having such a positive impact on the industry 🙌
Kinetic Games, the developer behind Phasmophobia, has announced the launch of Kinetic Publishing to "support and champion creativity within the indie space". The publisher will fund two to three indie projects a year up to budgets of £1 million.

Human brains feed off of negativity. Negative thoughts are easily digested and play in a loop in your mind all of the time. The reality, however, is that there is also A LOT OF GOOD happening every single minute. You have to do more work to pay attention to the good but it's worth it.

If this doesn't work, genuinely seriously ask yourself if you have ADHD and are just completely time-blind.

I know I am. It's horrible to deal with but it's helped me a lot to recognise it and figure out coping mechanisms

(even they mostly amount to "do everything as soon as humanly possible")
Game devs who say they're bad at estimating how long things take:
- Give a rough estimate
- Track how long it actually takes
- If wrong: is that the time it actually takes, or did something happen? (Life, distraction, etc)
- Revise old estimate
- Keep tabs going forward to revise as necessary
