Black girls in advanced academics who write literary analyses about “Their Eyes Were Watching God.” Queer kids who call the English Department The Fruit Factory. Allowables and Legacies by Nikki Giovanni.

Minneapolis protester as he's being brutalized by feds: "You're gonna have to kill me! You're gonna have to kill me! I've done nothing wrong! My name is Matthew James! I'm a US citizen! You're gonna kill me! Is that what you want?" (You can hear his wife screaming)

Oop
I don’t know, ICE taking babies off the street and imprisoning them seems like a kitchen table issue.

Pro tip: If you are attending a rally or action, wear a N95 mask & bring extras to give to others.

High quality masks can serve triple-duty: they prevent you and others from getting sick from airborne viruses, they keep your face warm in the freezing cold, & they can protect against surveillance.

What sort of nation terrorizes children and calls it enforcement? That demands loyalty while offering nothing but fear? My students already know the answer. They learned it the moment they started carrying passports in their pockets.

Black students in public schools have lived this reality forever.
‘What Sort of Nation Terrorizes Children?’: A Teacher’s View From Minneapolis (Opinion): My students live with the knowledge that anyone they love could be taken by ICE at any moment.

If you’re an educator and you believe there’s anything good, right, and/or just about ICE taking a FIVE YEAR OLD CHILD

hand in your keys and your badge TODAY. You’re an inhuman piece of shit and you don’t deserve the privilege of educating our nation’s children.

“People who were saved by Capitol Police on Jan 6th blame Capitol Police for Jan 6th”

A bunch of cowards
Wow -- Fanone coughs "go fuck yourself" to Trey Nehls as Nehls blames Capitol Police leadership for January 6

The only time I disrupted a church service, I stood up, looked the visiting pastor in the eye, and walked out as he spouted bigotry cloaked as theology.

I was 16, my heart raced in my ears, and I knew I’d embarrass my mom. But, if Jesus was overthrowing tables, I could walk out in silent protest.

My mom (rhetorically) asked my toddler, “do you want me to spank your booty?”

On behalf of her sibling, my daughter (almost 8) looked at my mom, her Yaya, and said,

“No! This is not the 1990s!”

A student & I had a class period full of friction today. He came after school & we worked it out. Before he left, I thanked him for teaching me how take responsibility and own my mistakes with grace. He lit all the way up and asked,

“I be teachin’ YOU? We be teachin’ each other?!”

And the land that was bought as part of the Louisiana Purchase (a vast area covering several states) was part of New Spain (1762-1801) after the French gave it to settle a debt and keep it from the British. They then sold it to U.S.

Much of New Orleans distinctive architecture is Spanish.

It would be incredible to have some texts written by my mutuals 💛
Writers, authors, scholars, professors, teachers:

I need compelling persuasive/argumentative NONFICTION texts my students can read and study in ordered to better understand the genre. Preferably no more than 10 pages and about issues that are current.

That David French NYT op-ed people are raving about is the problem with white punditry. Talking about the Nazi dual state without ever mentioning that Nazis learned from white America and its treatment of Black people. Jesus Christ it is painful waiting for y'all to catch up

Hey teachers:

Speaking truth to power in your classroom, especially in places that want silence and compliance, is activism. Telling the truth in a room full of students is THE WORK. Refusing to back down and refusing to lie in your curricular decisions is protest. +

We see you- whether you’re on the streets or managing spreadsheets, wrapping our community in care. There’s a place for everyone in this movement.

(Also, we may be at an all time high of Minnesotans telling each other that they love them.)
