statstically speaking if you get me/cfs from long covid your doctor is not going to help, and yr actual medical advice will come from ppl like me who've spent the last 5 years reading medical papers.

you do not want someone who can no longer type the word "statidtically" to be your replacement doc.

i love this for you, sincerely

sometimes it's a fluid thing, but i've also had multiple relationships where the agreed-upon thing decided on by both people involved is [nontraditional in-between thing]. every one of these is different, but like, so is every relationship in general

so the problem with this is that if you want to meet other potted plants you need to already live in a greenhouse, or live in a place with functional inter-city transit. because plants can't drive on the highway

these guidelines are still dangerous. you can't give informed consent about taking a CPET if your provider has fundamentally mischaracterized the potential risks. temporary damage vs. permanent damage is a big distinction!
heatherfeather.bsky.social
a 2-day Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPET) is the only biological way to confirm ME/CFS, but this says it leads to "a loss of function and reduced work capacity in the days or weeks that follow". this is an understatement. in ME/CFS, a CPET can easily cause damage that is months-long or permanent

Milestone moment for ME/CFS awareness!
The American College of Sports Medicine has added a section on ME/CFS to its Exercise Guidelines for the first time ever, thanks to @workwellfoundation.bsky.social and collaborators.

When we write or draw porn or erotica, we get banned from having a bank account and our livelihoods get seized even if we give it away for free.

When billionaires steal what we've written or drawn to churn out a slop-approximate of porn, they're allowed to charge for it.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Thomas (via techhub.social/@toemat) was super generous and sent me some of my favorite photos 3D printed with their converter tool! Not only that, they installed a really cool inner light to illuminate the pic.

A photo of four different Game Boy Camera photos 3D printed using the converter tool. A close-up photo of the Game Boy Camera print depicting a forest walkway among some trees. You can easily see the layer lines of the 3D print of 4 separate colors. A close-up photo of the Game Boy Camera print depicting a dog running in the distance. imagine living in a world where historical immersion games from academic teams like Sailing With The Gods got serious funding.

the feasibility of big-budget historically-plausible interactive art pieces isn't a technical limitation, and it's not an artistic limitation. it's because we live in a world broadly without arts funding
heatherfeather.bsky.social
find almost any random PC historical RPG from the 1990s and it'll have more credibility (artistically and historically) than assassins' creed. we could be living in a world where interactive "museums" give plausible insight into day-to-day aspects of the past that passive media simply can't convey

we’ve gone so far past “sex workers are the canaries in the coal mine” re: internet freedom, to an internet that’s run off and robbed from all the sex workers in order to replace them with planet-destroying simulations of sex workers

This is cool after the war on everything called “porn” by platforms and payment processors. A machine that stole all your words can generate and sell “erotica” but you can’t haaa

Good to know.

However, I do wish the article acknowledged that there ARE people who do actually need supplements and DO actually struggle with meeting protein needs, thus why we need a stronger FDA rather than the weakened FDA we've had even before the current admin.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

ex. when someone has a broken leg, we don't treat them as "lazy" for not running. bone fracture isn't terminal, but it does have

1. clear diagnosis
2. clear expectations: specific physical limitation
3. visual sign of illness (cast)
4. clear treatment plan
5. cultural empathy for "breaking a bone"
heatherfeather.bsky.social
terminal illnesses are culturally well-understood because they have a very straightforward trajectory, and doctors are very clear about communicating the reality of them to patients & families

coworkers, friends, acquaintances, they will all immediately understand because of cultural shorthand
heatherfeather.bsky.social
i've had this thought before and the conclusion it eventually led me to is that i don't want a terminal illness -- i want an illness that is culturally understood
