i've been thinking about this again after seeing some anti-options posting (players will ruin their experience with savestates / difficulty settings / credit feeding etc.) and to be a bit pretentious, i feel like part of "game literacy" is learning how and when options like that will benefit you
i generally think it's a good thing for a game to be book-like, in the sense that you can flip to any "page" (game state) relatively unimpeded, which i feel is a more radical position on difficulty than "dark souls should have easy mode"

extremely petty but i think 99% of the reason i haven't got around to playing the mushihimesama games is because all the bullets are the same color, it's my favourite color even but you gotta have multiple bullet colors

i only played link's awakening dx as a kid, feels like it'd be on brand for me to play the original sometime and become a "original link's awakening is better" guy

made it to stage 5 in ketsui with two lives and one bomb left, i think the "stage 4 wall" has finally crumbled and i actually need to learn stage 5 now

messing with gb studio.... it's interesting
when i heard "you can now make platformers and shmups now" i was like whoa they must have made it way more flexible, but it seems more like "now there is a platformer template and a shmup template"
