He was not properly trained. He made a catastrophic error; but an error that people make all the time while driving. He stayed on the scene. He could have fought the charges, but chose not to go to trial to save the families the pain. Several families fought his deportation.

But as Luke points out, what is the point of going to a building where you have no office and are spending the entire time on MS teams video calls?

1. Many public servants no longer have their own desks and work in transient government co-working spaces
2. Many describe a Kafkaesque existence of going to physical offices only to spend their time on video calls with the people sitting next to them

This is the exact reason I retired early. 40 minute drive to an unfamiliar office with no coworkers (same Fed dept tho). Pay parking. Never had a soul speak to me for the 8 hours except MS Teams calls. Work totally alone. 40 minute drive home. Gotta love the team spirit 🤦♀️
