This is one of those things where, if I believed it, I would immediately cease use of all AI products out of an abundance of caution and certainly not hook of them up to do my bidding.
LLMs are capable of certain forms of introspection and have really good theory of mind. They have increasing levels of situational awareness (which is making it difficult to test them because they know they’re being tested!) I personally don’t think they’re conscious but it’s not a settled question.

It's disturbing (but not surprising) the number of Dem/liberal-aligned defense people I see online who are clearly chomping at the bit to see American bombs killing Iranian civilians as soon as possible.
That this will be potentially used as an excuse for war, despite nothing fundamentally changing in 8 years, is a massive indictment of the US national security establishment. That the media and the Dems will go along with it is a massive indictment of them as well.

A conflict of equivalent scale in Iran would kill nearly 2 million civilians and result in 27 million refugees, making it the most disastrous humanitarian event of the 21st century by a not insignificant margin.

So, if I have this right, Israel has started a war for regime change and nuclear disarmament but has neither the strategy nor the capabilities to ensure either. It's counting on the Iranian people and US bombs to achieve its goals.

a society where "bad immigrants" are demonised is a society where no immigrant can truly feel welcome, because aren't we all just one wrong turn or accident away from being unemployed? on disability benefits? unable to care for our children without state help? just no such thing as a safe immigrant
