The agreement will also require Northwestern to continue repressing pro-Palestinian students (including Jewish pro-Palestinian students) but honestly I think Northwestern would do that anyway, so I’m not sure the agreement makes much of a difference.

No Joke but him growing up in Santa Monica and the west side of Los Angeles actually makes perfect sense.
I think that somewhere along the way something in Stephen Miller got fundamentally damaged. This is neither an excuse nor a mitigating factor; the dude is genuinely fucking evil and he and everything he stands for should be fought against and stopped. But he is something beyond mere sociopathy.
Since Stephen Miller is in the midst of another of his Aryans-only trantrums, we should note that his family are 20th century immigrants from the shtetl of Antopol (Антопаль) then in the Hrodna gubernia of Russia. Applying his immigration rules, they would all have perished in the Holocaust.

Simply awful. This is what Republicans want but also Democrats with the power to make a difference also turn a blind eye. Would Gavin Newsom step up to stop this and ensure these kids and families have enough to live without gruelling underpaid and toxic chemical exposed work??
Today I want to tell you about farmworkers.
Specifically, the child farmworkers of California's Central Valley.
As young as 12 years old.
In a blue state that is failing to ensure their health and safety.
Amazing investigation in 2 parts from our friends at @capitalandmain.bsky.social. Part I:

State officials are failing to protect the health and safety of thousands of young field laborers, an investigation has found.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Really dark. People in no real danger wanting to pack heat jic (fear mongering) and the dude with a cache of guns in Pennsylvania. Unserious people that may end up shooting someone for a petty slight.
Would-be gun owners seeking a concealed carry permit are required to take a safety training course, but with few rules on how they are taught, gun aficionados have stepped in to run them.

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity

The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

Council’s got two real powers: budget and (now reduced but still significant) upzoning/downzoning.

This is a pretty clear coalition on anti-property tax + pro-NYPD-spending + anti-major-upzoning

My bet is we get a ‘stasis’/member deference Council
