This Saturday is the start of the NHRL season! I've spent the past few months working on a bunch of projects, like refreshing our judging criteria for more exciting fights. 2026 is going to be amazing.

RFK, Jr. says a Harvard researcher cured schizophrenia by feeding his patient a meat-heavy keto diet. The Harvard researcher says he did not. For busy schizophrenic lovers of beef tallow, it can be hard to know who to trust.

Something I’ve seen repeatedly in tabletop game design is designers mistaking a "situated experience" for a marketable game.

It looks like this:

What is it with their reluctance to show replays? They didn't show replays of the USA win in mixed curling this afternoon; I had turned away at that point and completely missed it

also the venn diagram of people mad they can't understand the lyrics and the people who think born in the usa is about how good america is is a circle
my opinion on the Bad Bunny halftime show, and non-English music in general, is that i think a need to β€œbe able to understand the lyrics” displays an embarrassing shallowness of the speaker to appreciate the voice as an instrument & to appreciate music as something other than a lyric delivery system

This is what happens when media creators embrace the "number go up" mentality, instead of building community and trust. Thank you Rodney for shining a light on this deceptive practice.
Today I emailed publishers about a concerning practice a board game media creator engaged in. This will likely become public, so I'm providing the details here to give the full context of what I shared.

I've never seen a Super Bowl with such lousy QB play.

Credit to the 2 defenses, but... yikes.

I can’t emphasize enough how amazing this instrumental two-piece band is.
Oh, man. I know Weird Music Internet is blowing up a bit over these two, but it’s so up my street it’s ridiculous. Just so beautifully conceived and absurd and very welcome right now youtu.be/0Ssi-9wS1so?...

Oh gosh pass interference is a nightmare, haha. I was surprised at how poorly replay went. I wonder if the idea was sound but the execution was poor.

β€œBadly flawed” can really be an eye-of-the-beholder thing. All these things you’re pointing out as flaws aren’t issues to the core audience, so β€œfixing” them won’t have the effect you’d expect!

Likewise, the games we play can have characteristics that seem like clear and obvious flaws, but people like them anyway, because there’s something else about it that clicks with them.

People will hammer on this famous thing on how its plot doesn’t make sense, but we don’t watch things for if they make sense, we watch them for how they make us feel.

I don’t agree with the writer Jason Pargin on everything, but one thing he said that I liked is how many successful and highly-successful films, books, and TV shows have glaring plot holes, and how little it matters in the end.

Wasn’t that the play that Belichick called for Flutie in his final game? I’m a Belichick hater, but I thought that was awesome.

Consider it 5 seconds of schadenfreude. Or 5 seconds of sorrow. Depending on who you’re cheering for!

These would be big, difficult changes, but even if they’re only adopted at the high school level and below, they’d make a big difference.

Me too. I wonder if the QB will someday wear tags, and can’t be tackled in the pocket, or at all.

The NCAA targeting rule comes from a good place, but is so inconsistently enforced.

Would love to see shoulder tackles more restricted, and rugby-style arm tackles be required.
