Trump just bombed six more people in the Caribbean, for a total of 27 civilians who have been killed so far by the US military. It’s illegal for the military to target civilians who do not pose an immediate threat. This is murder.
U.S. Military Kills Another 6 People in 5th Caribbean Strike, Trump Says
In a social media post, the president said the people aboard a boat were suspected of smuggling drugs for an unspecified group his team had labeled terrorists.

Trump claims ICE’s reign of terror in Chicago is targeting the “worst of the worst.”

But out of the 1,000 undocumented immigrants that have swept up, the agency has only cited 10 men with a criminal background.

Don’t believe his lies for a second.

Trump says migrants drive violent crime in Illinois. But ICE can’t find many violent criminals.
Masked ICE agents and other federal forces showed up in Chicago to go after gangsters. Instead, they keep catching people who are just living their lives.

As I've noted, central to Stephen Miller's propaganda is the claim that the Chicago complex targeted by ICE was "filled" with Tren de Aragua "terrorists."

Now @jacobsoboroff.bsky.social reports that the number of TdA members netted in that raid is down to *one.*

so what works to get rid of extremist groups that bond through increasing transgression?

well, this is also a good example of that: often, tensions between members are actually what breaks them up

someone “takes sides against the family” and the whole thing falls apart (see: Atomwaffen)

what this can teach us is that we do not have to spend our energy engaging with these behaviors on a belief level, because they aren’t rooted in belief, even though if challenged within their social in-group they would all immediately defend their statements as being their genuine beliefs

I know the temptation is to just scroll past this with a “not surprised” reaction, but you should read this if you have the emotional bandwidth to encounter horrifying slurs and violent sentiments, because there’s an important takeaway: extremism is often performed to reinforce an in-group’s bond.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News and CNN won't sign new Pentagon access policy
In a joint statement, executives at ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News and NBC News rejected the proposed policy, which makes it tougher to get information from military employees.

"During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she 'doesn’t look like' a Greeley."

www.yahoo.com/news/article...
Chicago Tribune: Greeley, who was born at Illinois Masonic hospital and is adopted, carries a copy of her passport just in case she runs into federal agents.

“I am Latina and I am a service worker,” Greeley said. “I fit the description of what they’re looking for now.”

During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she “doesn’t look like” a Greeley.

“They said this isn’t real, they kept telling me I’m lying, I’m a liar,” Greeley recalled. “I told them to look in the rest of my wallet, I have my credit cards, my insurance.”

There are celebrations across the Nation with that same energy because We ARE STILL HERE and folks are here for it because we are so much cooler, funnier, loving, and smarter than these outdated stereotypes have had people believing for centuries.

I shared this video through @redpopnews.bsky.social about the Indigenous Peoples' Day celebration at the Getty because it was beautiful to share our cultures and to be appreciated for who we are as Native people beyond the Hollywood tropes and Stereotypes and not as relics of the past.

There is also a claim circulating that “knocked up” originated with slave auctions, but I did a pretty deep look into that a couple years ago when I first saw it pop up, and it seems baseless—someone misinterpreted a tasteless joke Davy Crockett once said. 🤷‍♀️
generalmcmill.bsky.social
Hard to tell! “Knock“ referred to sex from the 16th century (and I guess sort of still, as in “knocking boots“!), so they might have arisen separately.
generalmcmill.bsky.social
I don’t know if there’s a connection between the two terms—off to the etymological dictionaries!
generalmcmill.bsky.social
Knocker-up: before alarm clocks, you could pay someone to come around to your house and wake you up on time by knocking on your window, with a long stick if needed. They’d make rounds around the town. Silly-sounding to us, but very real!
