god i remember thinking the same thing when he had his new japan run in 2019-ish, and he was carting around shota umino as his protege.

there's this one pic of him from 2021 where he looks like the coolest motherfucker out there, then shota went and paid tribute a year later

AI video may exacerbate disinformation online but it didn't create the problem, because I don't think the problem is about the 'convincingness' of images or their inherent persuasive power, the problem is people being willing to believe something as it is framed to them

the way i understand it, it's like multifactor authentication except without any need for a user to enter something and all layered into a single step. i had the same questions when i saw 1password start to suggest passkeys, and this cleared it up... kinda.

Around the time video game violence discourse circled around The Last of Us 2, I joked with a friend that if people really wanted players to feel guilty about who they killed, we should be forced to watch their happiest moments before they get gunned down by a Drake-type. Someone out there gets me:

As if doing a low honour run in Red Dead Redemption 2 didn't make you feel guilty enough in comes a mod that gives NPCs memories for you to watch before murdering them

Suddenly, violence doesn't seem like the answer.

Dear supporters of Bitmap Books,

Although I stand by the fact that Moses’ comments were ill-advised and insensitive, the whole thing blew up and was made much bigger than it needed to be. Moses has publicly apologised for any offence caused, as has the original poster of the comments who did not intend to cause this much trouble. I do not feel that this warrants an author losing his livelihood and ruining years of hard work to produce the book.

Despite multiple accusations to the contrary, Moses freely agreed to donate his royalties to charity. There was no coercion from me, however we both recognise that due to an increasingly stressful situation that decisions were rushed on both sides. I’m pleased to say that Moses and I have spoken again today, we stand together, and have agreed that he will receive 100% of his royalties.

Maybe I was hasty in my response, and I’m happy to admit to that. At the time I sincerely thought I was doing the right thing to diffuse an increasingly difficult situation. I will commit to donating all company profits from this first print run to the charity, Special Effect.

The bottom line is that is that Moses has apologised for his original comments, and will now be paid the royalties that are rightfully his.

Moses and myself have received a large amount of personal abuse and threats over the past few days. We hope that this statement will bring some closure to what has happened.

I was naive to think the ~7GB FFXI download wouldn't need a big update right off the bat. So naive.

Really wish it was possible to reintegrate it into Phantom Pain. There's a prerendered flashback cutscene during the helicopter ride after you rescue Kaz that feels stylistically out of place, and I'm convinced it's where Ground Zeroes was meant to be played
