I trolled a certain type of superficial sort with that last post. Misdirect, opportunity for misreading and false accusations against yours truly that further buttresses my point. Let's see if they misread it.

In order for a personality detail to transcend beyond schoolgirl gossip and into the realm of Chernow-level insight, the trait in question must affect a large amount of people. Change lives. This is why Maureen Dowd is so stupid. She doesn't understand the distinction.

Not terribly surprising when you also consider that the New Yorker hired the generalization-happy crackpot Malcolm Gladwell. Every "top" outlet needs its rubes to cool the journalistic responsibility and feed meat to tetchy investors.
It's kinda wild how everyone spent years pretending that Maggie Haberman had some kinda special insight into Trump's psyche.

Simon Sebad Montefiore's STALIN: THE COURT OF THE RED TSAR is an extraordinary supplemental biography to the invaluable work done by Stephen Kotkin. It is masterful in its investigation of personality details without even feeling gossipy. I want more books like this

I love how this article underplays the fact that $300 a ticket may just be one of the biggest factors deterring people from hitting Broadway during a time of inflation and ever-escalating prices. You can't have "consumer confidence" if you're broke!

This is an absolutely fascinating experiment. Many of these poor kids are isolated. Others have returned to their family. I do hope that psychologists and sociologists are conducting tons of research and field studies right now. We should know what these phones are doing to us.

Terrible news about Sophie Kinsella. Only 55, but with a respectable body of work in the Shopaholic novels, which balanced pop wit with a good faith examination of addictive behavior.

There goes the lucrative industry of international tourism, already fairly wrecked. The US was "the world’s most powerful Travel & Tourism market, contributing a record-breaking $2.36 TN to the nation’s economy last year" said the World Travel & Tourism Council in 2024.
Requiring temporary visitors to surrender five years of social media to the U.S. sends the message that the American commitment to free speech is pretense. This simply is not the behavior of a country confident in its freedoms.

It's a threat to free speech around the world and must be opposed.

Powell is one of the few people holding us back from financial chaos. I'm not saying I approve of his interest rates. But I am saying that Trump will replace him with a completely unqualified maniac who doesn't know economics. Buckle uo when he leaves.

It's honestly amazing that the new seasons of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD are as hilarious as they are -- particularly "Roof" and "River," which had me cackling with laughter. Great callbacks, side-splitting stupid logic.

The wisecracking demons in my script were sounding too erudite. So I watched nearly an entire season of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD to help make them a bit stupider. And this actually worked! After this rewrite, the dialogue is much funnier.

The economy is FAR WORSE than the government is acknowledging. This holiday season, if you know folks struggling, don't be afraid to leave a mystery box of groceries or some gifts from Santa for the kids on their porch. Maybe drop a grocery store gift card in their mailbox.

Be the Christmas magic.
