Creative hyphenate in Brooklyn who reads too many books and sifts through discount store items to find new sounds to record. Decent backgammon player. Friend to weirdos. Haters and MAGA types will be blocked.

My latest audio drama, "Libromendel," has been officially released! I wrote a behind-the-scenes essay on why I made this and what went into it.

This is the story of how a 1929 Stefan Zweig story became a vital inspiration for an epic audio drama depicting the cost of removing people from American life. (You can listen to the audio drama at th...

The economy is FAR WORSE than the government is acknowledging. This holiday season, if you know folks struggling, don't be afraid to leave a mystery box of groceries or some gifts from Santa for the kids on their porch. Maybe drop a grocery store gift card in their mailbox.

Be the Christmas magic.

American Canto? More like American Can't Do One? Amirite? 🤣🤣

Reminds me of the time I humiliated a MAGA macho moron by doing twenty Rocky-style push-ups on TikTok to his feeble two. He was fifteen years younger than me.

Well, here it is, folks. This is what happens when you have a hateful fascist as President who never faces any consequences. The kids get more emboldened. Truly sickening.

The funny thing about editing by hand is that I'm so used to editing in the computer that I'll actually hit Control-S on the keyboard after I've sliced my pen through a few pages.

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Make no mistake—both Netflix and Paramount are fucking awful choices in the continued consolidation of our industry but if it comes down to Kushner and the Saudis, Netflix is the lesser of two evils
Jared Kushner's involvement was "not mentioned in Paramount's press release on Monday morning about its $108 billion bid, nor were participating sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar."

fancy that
Jared Kushner is part of Paramount's hostile bid for Warner Bros. Discovery
Paramount is telling WBD shareholders that it has a smoother path to regulatory approval than does Netflix.

One of my favorite all-time movies. Let's see who gets this. I've seen it nine times. I've only met two Americans who are as crazy about the film as I am.

Hint: (whispers) "How much are they paying you?"

Not only is ICE snatching hard working people who are trying to earn a living, they’re taking their money too?

A witness recorded ICE agents taking a cash box from a taco stand in La Puente during an operation where four people were arrested.

Alright, I am confining my Kerouac rereading to the following:

ON THE ROAD (obvs)
TRISTESSA
BIG SUR
THE SUBTERRANEANS
THE DHARMA BUMS

This is for a forthcoming essay. I think these five are his best, but if there are any Kerouac maniacs who want to make a case for the other seven, reply to this!

A few years ago, I did a loving rearrangement of Dominic Glynn's opening music cue for Trial of a Timelord. To my great surprise, I received a very kind email from Glynn himself telling me that he liked it. Just putting this out here to establish my Who bona-fides.

ALMOST a companion, but she declined after crushing it in "The Faceless Ones." We Anglophiles knew her as Sarah Moffatt in UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS. She was a badass as Shirley Valentine.

RIP Pauline Collins
Sad to hear that the great Pauline Collins has died at the age of 85. An absolute star of stage and screen, she made two memorable on screen appearances in Doctor Who. She was also nominated for an Oscar for the film 'Shirley Valentine'. RIP Pauline.

I'm heartened to see that even the most gullible neoliberals on here see through Marjorie Taylor Greene's phony redemption rebranding. She is absolutely not to be trusted. Now if you can extend your skepticism to Murkowski and Collins (both of whom are operators), you may just START to get it. 🤣

Confused by muscles growing in corporeal terrain flabby and desolate for decades. Also trying to assemble all these thoughts I have on Jack Kerouac, who cannot simply be discounted despite writing way too much during his short life.

114 days without a cigarette (save for one stupid slip, unrepeated). One of my big accomplishments of 2025. My hope is that I'm off these for good. I do, after all, have enemies to outlive and obituaries to write. 🤣🤣

Also proud of my friend @paulysinatra.bsky.social, who is one day behind me.

Sarah Hall's new novel HELM is so enjoyably "I have no fucks to give I'll write whatever I want," so beautifully written, and so fierce about the realities of human obsolescence standing no chance against nature that I feel obliged to recommend it. I may be the only Yank reading it. 🤣🤣

This plays like the first draft of a Harold Pinter scene, but with Pinter significantly off his game.

LESLEY STAHL: You contributed to the toxic culture. You were out there pounding, insulting people

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: You've contributed to it as well

STAHL: I want you to respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people

MTG: I'd like for you to respond to that

DHS under Kristi Noem is in shambles.

Under the Big Beautiful Bill Act, ICE’s budget ballooned to nearly $30 billion. And what does that get us? Bottom-of-the-barrel agents who only meet bare minimum standards.

The vast scale of anti-Tarantino sentiments on Threads in the last week (initiated by his Paul Dano remarks) is truly astonishing. His reputation really got taken down by ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Or rather people now see that PTA is clearly the better filmmaker.
